I I I and the Home Economics Ann Wl1eeler, B S, B A The HOME ECONOMICS department is endeavoring to help the students adjust themselves to the problems met in their daily lives as well as to improve their toods, clothing, and etiquette, To help accom- plish this purpose three new courses have been introduced this year. Personal and Social Problems, one ot the three, has be- come the most popular home economics course. Using a furnished apartment as a laboratory, the students at home' eco- nomics gain much valuable experience. ln addition to this they work in toads and clothing laboratories, and in the cafeteria where approximately 250 students buy their lunches every day. Irene Patterson, MS, Patnales, BS., Ruth Freelcind, B S Bernice Vallmer, BS tim H Although there is no subject taught in the LIBRARY, the work done there demands recognition, Miss Wheeler ond twelve student assistants are kept busy lending from a collection of approximately 6,000 books. During last year they circulated 32,344 books or about 200 books every day. ln an attempt to keep up to date, about twenty-tive new books are added to the collection every month. The library is not used as o study hall, lnstead, it is a place where students may come tor reference work or plesaure reading. I I I and the Library

A departrnent with but one teacher and a relatively small number of students, the ART DEPARTMENT is one of the most progressive in the school. We cannot fail to realize that it is quite a task keep- ing the course progressing with the trend of the times, but Miss Harrison has accomplished this. The art students get o great deal done. Some phase of their work is constantly on exhibit. They have entered many city, state, and national con- tests, never failing to win some prize. I ,ij ,. 4' f ij ' F'Nl11lf1!fUf l ' William Mclnlire, B. Mus. .,i,L ii' Zl- An Art lesson. It is the work of one man, Mr, Mclntire, to teach all of Eostern's many MUSIC enthusiasts. There are about twelve organizations in Eastern which appear in assemblies, concerts, and operas. Two of them have brought the school unusual recog- nition. Our vested choir has been asked to represent Michigan at the National Music Educa- tional Conference, and the band was voted the best marching and playing band in the state. Eastern High School owns excellent musical equip- ment. The school has purchased three thousand dollars worth of instruments which are loaned to the students.
