All these different kinds of climates with their cor- responding different varieties of plant and animal life appear in this photo of Mount Graham, whose summit is only 12 miles-airline-from the College. Practically every day of the year EAC students can get out in comfort into this desert-mountain setting, that begins at the boundary of the Campus.

A Tough Job Handled Well bg a Busg Man. . That Is Whg ...... This is why The Oasis Staff of T966-67 dedicates this yearbook To Jesse U. DeVaney, Dean of Admissions and Registrar. His is the work of checking the records of in- coming students, filing the information on all students, and organizing all This so it is quickly available to The various departments of The College. Through his office goes much of the countless items of information desired by high schools, prospective students and Their parents regarding Eastern Arizona College. Few people know of The countless demands made upon Dean DeVaney and his staff. During The hot summer months The Dean is kept busy working on The records of outgoing and incoming stu- dents. He is responsible for The operating procedure of registration days. His is the final decision as to who enters, and often, who leaves The College-truly a posi- Tion of responsibility. Jesse DeVaney is a native of Douglas, Arizona, where he completed high school. His first two years in college were aT New Mexico Military Institute. Next we find him at the University of Arizona, where he earned a B. S. in Business Education. The military beckoned, and he served Two years as First Lieutenant in an armored di- vision. After The army came work with The Southern Pacific Railroad, considerable experience in The library and wire photo department of The Arizona Daily Star, and a Teaching fellowship in business at The University of Arizona that led To a Master of Education in l956. The year 1956 also found Dean DeVaney ioining The staff of Eastern Arizona as an instructor in business in the area of secretarial science. ln i963 he moved into his present work. Dean DeVaney is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, na- tional education honorary fraternity, and is active in the Arizona Education Association, National Education As- sociation, and The Arizona College Association of which he has served as president. He is a Presbyterian and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Dean DeVaney is married to the former Betty Jo Cof- fey, also of Douglas, and they have three children, Jesse U. lll, Cynthia Lou and Mary Richert. Not only for a iob well done, but for the cooperation he gives other staff members of the College, for patience with and consideration of the problems of the students, and for the many, many hours of over-time he puts in in helping to build and promote a better Eastern Arizona College, the 1967 OASIS is dedicated.
