Two hundred and fifty strong, the Freshman class of 1960 was one of the best and the largest in the college's history. The class, under the direction of advisors David Cothrun, Sue Ray, and Herbert Flower, took Homecoming honors from all sides, claiming the best float in the Homecoming parade, Cinderella's Fantasyf' and the Homecoming King and Queen. The class had its share of athletes and scholars, leaders and good citizens, as demonstrated by its participation in many college activities, including the blood drive. For Freshmen who return to Eastern Arizona this fall, the col- lege will be familiar with friends and faculty, and for those leaving, we hope the memory of the campus and its activities will remain among those they treasure. Immediately Sam's spirit descends to the living room in great anxiety, because Sam has departed this life not only leaving his wife and daughter penniless but having also, innocently, misappropriated his son's savings for a speculative venture. TAYLOR GENERAL CONTRACTORS Pima, Arizona Phone HU 5-2491 For the best in homes and building supplies Color Courtesy of RLZIQB, S THE LAST WORD Every year, as each Oasis is completed and sent to the publisher, the edi- tor becomes a sentimental figure as she sits down at the desk where the pages of the annual were designed and drawn, and begins to think over the progress, prob- lems, and long hours that the editing of the Oasis entails. Yet the one thing that occupies an editor's mind while the book is going through the publishing stages is how the students will react to it when it is re- turned. A well-known fact publicity men and Women often repeat is, that Writing is a thankless job. This is not true in the case of a yearbook editor. A smile, an exclamation at a picture, or an admiring word about the cover or the theme is 'thanks' 'enough for the hours spent in laying-out an Oasis. But there are some people who deserve a formal 'thanksf and who should have particular mention for the time they have spent on the 1960 Oasis. V To most students an advisor is someone you have to visit to request an activity, see about grade cards, or chaperone at some campus function. THOMAS A. SCOTT was working side by side with me and the rest of the staff night and day, and was the encouraging voice that gave everyone renewed ambition to draw up the final page at the end. To him goes the deepest 'thank you's' of all. DALE HANCOCK and PHILLIP WHITMORE were the sports editors, and they added that very neces- sary masculine touch to those pages which could be Written in no other way. JOAN ALLEN, business manager, and SANDRA STINSON sold many dollars worth of advertising from Phoenix to Solomon, and their every move was efficient and planned. IOHN LEONE, photographer, and MILDRED HANCOCK, photo printer, were an endless amount of help, as shown by the quality of pictures in the yearbook, and as I write here in longhand, I know I will see these words typed neatly in triplicate form on copy sheets by our annual typist, LINDA MATHEWS. It is to these people that all of my 'thanks' are directed, for I could not have done this job without them. We are all human-and we all make mistakes, some of them big ones. But try to remember as you go back through the Oasis each time, that we tried very hard to please you, the students, and that for a few to re- cord the activities of nearly 400 students for 9 months is not an easy task. We hope you will be pleased with the book themed 'Focus on l960,, for it is yours to keep to help you recall your year here at Eastern Arizona your friends, classes, faculty, and activities. My greatest desire is for you to enjoy this record as much as we enjoyed compiling it. IAN HARTNELL Editor ,hal fs, tu.-B 11.
