Student Person nel Services East Tennessee State College has adopted the philos¬ ophy that Student Personnel Services should be available to all students and attempts to coordinate all phases of student life into such a program. It holds also, that a student advisement should be the responsibility of all members of the college family, including the administra¬ tive officers, heads of schools, chairmen of departments, faculty members, and students. From a limited beginning in 1941, the program has expanded to offer all services necessary for an adequate division of Student Personnel Services. It is the feeling of the college that such a program will assist the student to develop to the greatest possible degree of his capacity. Miss Ella V. Ross Director In addition to serving as director Miss Ross is in charge of Education Guidance and Counseling, Stu¬ dent Activities, and the Student Work Program. Mrs. S. G. Gilbreath Reading Laboratory Mrs. Gilbreath guides the students in a remedial program of reading. The services are available to all students who desire to improve their rate and quality of reading. Mr. T. M. Howze Public Relations Mr. Howze, as Director of Public Relations, has charge of college publications, publicity, and school visitations. He also serves as Director of Alumni affairs. Miss Flora Marie Meredith Placement Miss Meredith is director of Placement Services. This office has as its functions the assembling of confidential credentials for stu¬ dents prior to graduation and assisting stu¬ dents in securing positions.
Dr. Albert C. Luker Research Problems to the various services are carried on under the supervision of Dr. Luker, Di¬ rector of Research. Miss Louise McBee Housing- and Testing o o Miss McBee handles all requests for rooms on or off campus. She supervises the testing program, which includes those tests required of all students and those tests administered upon request. Mr. T. C. Carson Student Aid The Aids and Awards are administered by a special committee under the direction of Mr. Carson, who passes upon all requests for loans. Mr. Jerry Boone Speech and Hearing Clinic The Speech and Hearing Clinic, which is a part of the Health Department, is staffed by Mr. Boone. Services are available to all students as well as people of the area. Mrs. Louise Carmack Health The Health Clinic is staffed by a registered nurse, with physicians on call. Mr. Emmett Sawyer Religious Activities The Religious Activities are supervised by the Central Religious Council, composed of representatives from all denominational groups. Mr. Sawyer serves as Director of Religious Activities.
