DEDICATION We, the Class of l954, do respectfully dedicate this year's BUC- CANEER to Thomas Coleman Carson. We feel that we have been extremely fortunate in knowing him our last four years. Through our association with him, our lives have been greatly enriched because of his interest in the Student Body and his patience and understanding. l-lis willingness to co-operate has not been limited to the classroom. We have benefited in this association to the extent that many before us, and many succeeding ones, carry hisiideals and standards far afield to serve them as guides. l-lis lifetime of devotion to his chosen profession serves as a constant challenge to us to pattern our lives after the example he has set. Mr. Carson was born in Saluda, South Carolina, in I89I. l-le grad- uated from Furman University in l9I2. ln l924 he came to East Ten- nessee State College, then went to Duke where he obtained his Master's Degree. l-le returned here to teach in the Biology Department. Soon afterwards he moved to the Mathematics Department and has been teaching in that field since. Each Sunday finds Mr. Carson in his accustomed pew at the Central Baptist Church. l-le loves young people and enjoys teaching them. l-lis hobbies are fishing, hunting, pool, gardening, croguet and bridge. It is our pleasure to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Carson as a token of our appreciation.

CDUR PRESIDENT One ot the most distinguished and erudite tigures on our campus. With his winning smile and cheertul disposition, he is always a welcomed addition to any assemblage. A deeply religious and God-tearing man, President Dossett has instilled in all who come in contact with him a similar philosophy-one ot humility, reverence and service to tellow man. ln his six years as president, Mr. Dossett has added to the lite ot the college as well as to the lives ot the students. This contribution is retlected in expansion, growth and beneticial additions to the natural beauty ot our campus. l-laving been a teacher, principal, superintendent, and Commissioner ot Education in Tennessee, President Dossett came to us well gualitied, and he has so exhibited these gualitications that he has become endeared to all ot us as Our President-A Great Man.
