THE JUNE BUG 17 CLASS HISTORY Although our class—February 1919—entered in midwinter, we were as verdant as any “Flats” that ever enrolled at East Technical High School. We had not even had the advantage of attending one of these new-fangled Junior Highs. All the pet tortures known to upper classmen were perpetrated upon us. But as soon as we became familiar with our itinerary, we began to feel less conspicuous. “Exams” reminded us of certain widely-advertised patent medicines, for ‘after taking’ we were Sophomores—almost completely transformed. So greatly were we impressed with ourselves that our sober miens frightened our teachers until the temptation to skip study-hall became too much for us and our usual number occupied the office bench. Vacation came again, but it meant no cessation of work for some of us. Summer school was lots of fun though, so why worry? Back we were in the fall to meet old friends and to find new ones. We were safe from criticism now, and our programs were trimmed with such fancy subjects as Solid Geometry and French. The social life of the school began to revolve about us. Clubs and dances were graced by our presence. Time hurried and soon the year drew to a close. We heartily agreed with Mr. Lake when he said that examinations were a waste of time. Our decorous pace, as Seniors, was interrupted by the “Flu” vacation and we were compelled to stay at home for five weeks with nothing to do. Even guard duty would have been a pleasant diversion. When we eventually returned, the big questions were: Will this term count at all? How shall we make up our time? We needn’t have agitated ourselves, for these problems were airily solved for us by our superiors. And, speaking of problems, we wonder if, when we scan the “Want Ads,” we’ll miss having somebody to make out our programs.
