History 7, 1954. It was held in the old boys gym and was called “Spring Festival”. It was a semi formal affair and the school band provided the music. There was a dance contest and one of our own girls. Pat Truppo, won it. Halfway through our high school days, we realized that time was passing very quickly. Posters were plastered all over the bulletin boards since campaigning had begun for the 1 1A class elections. The results were: President: Dennis Crawford Secretary: Janice Donlan Vice President: Carl Mason Treasurer: Fred Pechulonis Money, money, money! We were Senior B's and just found out that we each owed thirty dollars in back dues. This certainly came as a shock to some of us; and. as though that weren't enough we were all taxed with a prom ticket. That made it thirty-five dollars. Since we girls were such good economists, we dashed down to Mr. Springer’s to get cards to sell to lessen our dues. We decided in 1 2B that our class officers would hold office for the entire year. The following were elected: President: Mary Jane Petrucelli Secretary: Dolores Nortof Vice President : Natlie Kozodoy Treasurer: Fred Pechulonis The Senior A's certainly gave a good show for Senior Day. We will never forget their satire of Club 82. We considered it a great honor, the wearing of a red carnation all day and being looked up to as seniors. We were quite busy now that we were Senior B’s. taking pictures for the year book, paying our dues, and studying. We had to make much preparation for our prom which was to be held on May 6. 1955. Our prom was the first to be held in the new gym. We decorated it elaborately with palms in night-club fashion. The tables surrounded the the dance floor The school orchestra was enclosed in a white picket fence. Cookies and punch were served by a few Juniors who were hostesses. Most of the class attended with the faculty. After the prom most of us headed for the New York night clubs, while others went to night spots in New Jersey. The theme of our prom was “Enchanted Evening”, and it certainly proved to be one. We are grateful to Mr. Springer and to Miss Russo for all their help. Summer vacation was here again and for those who were not continuing with school after graduation, this was the last long vacation to be had. Boosters, boosters, and more boosters! That’s all we were hearing these days. We did a good sales job and had the Torch after all. Remember the Senior Day show we gave? The girls were funny as football players and the boys looked even more hilarious as models. After the dance and refreshments in the gym. most of us went to New York. When we looked at ourselves now we realized how much we had grown since w were freshmen. The male members of our class looked more like men. and the girls wer now young ladies. Much to our relief we have finished our term papers, paid our class dues, our brary fines, and our lab fees. We have long ago become accustomed to the food served in our cafeteria, and we have passed all our subjects. We are ready for graduation. I If this writing recalls only briefly our happy days here at East Side, then it is worth

Class Well, we are finally getting ready to leave East Side! Those four years have certainly flown by. leaving us with many pleasant memories. Say. do you remember our first day at East Side? We were all seated in the auditorium and we were quite excited. Although we had no idea as to what was going on. we soon found ourselves assigned to home rooms. Many of us were sent to classrooms at Ann Street School and we didn't see our classmates until the following term. After filling out endless forms, we got acquainted briefly. Finally, the dismissal bell rang and we went home quite exhausted. And so ended our first day at East Side. Do you remember searching for East Side's elevator? What about getting used to the one way traffic (which went around in a circle). the up and down stairways, the long, long lunch line, and the wild goose chases initiated by the seniors5 At first we thought it was unfair of the seniors to do this, but we do the same now so we can't blame them. It didn’t take us long to become acquainted with some of the teachers, especially Messrs. Rosamilia and Lumb. Many of us took advantage of the extra curricular activities offered and joined some of the clubs. Time flew by quickly and before we realized it. our first exams loomed before us. We really had to buckle down. Summer vacation was drawing near and the membership of the Cutters' Club increased. Weren't we relieved when school ended for the summer. Those first few weeks after vacation were the limit. We still don't know how the teachers managed to stick to the subject since we never could. Our minds were still vacationing. When the football season rolled 'round, most of us attended the games. Usually we went in a large group with cow bells, sloppy shirts, and dungarees. We were very proud to see our band, twirlers. and cheer leaders marching on the field. Cheering the team's spectacular plays sure was fun. However, we usually wound up with a good case of laryngitis. The most thrilling game, of course, was the one played on Thanksgiving Day. We were very proud that our team won this particular game with Central because this meant our team would have possession of the cup. Gosh it felt good to be a sophomore; luckily, most of us made it. Some of us were busy learning shorthand while others were struggling with Caesar. It was real fun teasing the freshmen and realizing how silly we must have looked when we were in their shoes. We were city league football champions that year, and Joe Gomes was our big hero. Although, we mustn't forget such good players as Frank Barnes and John D'Olivi-era either. Let's face it—the whole team was good! Most of us were getting ready to buy class rings in our Junior year. We were proud f them and were pleased with the fact that we could be looked up to as upperclassmen There no longer was any question as to the success of our class. We had our first tions with these results: ident: Mary Jane Petrucelli President: Elizabeth Ryman Secretary: Dolores Nortof Treasurer: Victoria Tremarco Because of her pleasant personality and interest in the class. Mary Jane was able to the election despite the tough competition of her male opponents. . was in this term that we had our first school dance. We were all willing to join the i ince committees. After much hard work the night of the dance finally 22
