We as citizens. have become more sensitive
to ideals. prejudices. and the acts of others
because of the complexity of our social. eco-
nomic, and political life. Universal secondary
education has become indispensible to the
individuals in order to enable them to prepare
for their duties as citizens.
The school teaches the duties of citizenship
and emphasizes that for every right there is
a corresponding responsibility. The school al-
so emphasizes that American democracy is
dynamic and, therefore. changes are desirable
to improve our social. economic, and political
way of life.
School helps the pupil develop salable skills
together with the understandings and atti-
tudes that make him an intelligent and pro-
ductive participant in economic life. Vile must
understand the need of tolerance, self-disei-
pline, helpfulness, courtesy, and cooperation,
in order that the democratic wav of life mav
become a living thing. I 1
Life is an expansion of what We have in
school.
GEORGE I.. DIERXVECHTER
Principal
A MIN ISTRATIO
Schools throughout the world are in the
spotlight today. Our educational system is the
central topic for discussion at all gatherings.
Today we accept the fact that our schools
are a pivitol point in society.
The members of the graduating class have
gained a solid foundation, for their future as
a result of having attended schools for their
past thirteen years. ln addition to a formal
education everv effort has been made to assist
the students in pursuit of individual interests
and the development of new ones through
the various activities of one school program.
As one phase of their development, many
students have taken an active part in the
activities of one school such as the student
council. clubs. athletics, dramatics, music,
publications, assemblies, library. and graduat-
ing exercises.
As a result of our entire school program,
our students will leave school ready to meet
the challenges of life in a well adiusted man-
ner, thereby developing into useful compe-
tent citizens.

FUOTBALL
For the second successive year our "VVildc:1t Eleven" scored
21 second place in the tough Passaic Valley Conference, defeated
only by a strong Clifton teain, and captured a state co-clnnnpion-
ship in the Group Ill division.
The outstanding play of Jllllilll Nlalinski and Bob De Vries
earned them places on the All-State selections. Four of our XVild-
cats secured positions on the first string Valley Conference teznnz
Julian Nialinski, Bob De Vries, Richie Anderson, and Frank Nii-
lano, Adding support in the strong 1957 finish, Russ De Vries
placed on the second teain with Honorable Mentions going to
Phil Lasker, George NIacDonald, and Fred Steiger.
From the opening gainc romp over Hasbrouck Heights, our
Coach Fittipzllclfs eleven continued to compile an enviable record,
cuhninating in the Turkey Day victory over our arch rival, Lynd-
hurst. 1957 saw one of the best teanns ever produced by East
Rutherford.

BASKETBALL
Confronted with the loss of the majority of his
veterans, Coach Sinofsky faced the problems of re-
building. The team got off to a slow start but man-
aged to develop into one that began to Click and
operate as a unit.
The spirit and enthusiasm that prevailed welded
the XVildeat quintet into an aggressive fired group
which posed a constant threat to the opposition. De-
spite the won-lost record for the season, Sinofsky's
five earned the respect of other quintets in the circuit
through their display of vitality, zest, and sportsman-
ship. This is a real tribute to our team.
