Homecoming Fast Rutherford’s new Cavalier Queen is Melissa Branch, sponsor for the Junior Civitans. She is an active student and enjoys Cheer- leading and being with her friends. In addition, Melissa is a member of the Civinettes, Pep Club, Chris- tians In Action, and the Student Government Association. Our Cavalier Queen plans to attend Appalachian State University where she would like to major in Elementary Education. Cavalier Royalty 111

Mrs. Debbie Smith sponsors the SGA this year and she found out exactly what hard work was. Without the home coming committee, including An- gie Buchanon and Rowena Daw- kins, the chairmen, October the Eighteenth could not have gone as smoothly. Homecoming began way be- fore the actual day. Sponsors for clubs and sports had to be cho- sen by September the Twenty- Sixth. On Tuesday, October Tenth, Mr. Bridges and the AV Department made videos to be shown in the lunchroom the next Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, October Fourteenth, the entire school voted on the Cavalier Queen and Homecom- ing Queen was voted on the fol- lowing day. Tension grew as Friday grew closer. Questions about escorts, flowers, cars and clothes circled all of the sponsors’ minds. Final- ly, The night was here. Before the game, Melissa Branch was crowned the 1985 Cavalier Queen. Halftime showed all view- ers that Crisi Ohmstead was our new Homecoming Queen. How- ever, discouraging the loss of the game was, we still had the dance to attend. What a way to end a perfect night!!! Homecoming Life 113
