The Rock Staff Here is the twenty-fifth edition of THE ROCK. Into it have gone the worry, the work, and an accumulation of the talents of the Class of 1961. To us this book is more than just pictures and copy; it’s more than just schedules completed and deadlines met; it’s East Rockaway High School as we have seen it, East Rockaway High School as we have lived it for the past four years. THE ROCK for 1961 could never have been completed in such fine style had it not been for the unceasing cooperation and hard work of every member of the staff. Special thanks, however, go to Mike Rubin and Roni Nash who have given our ROCK its artistic “new look,” and to Walter Carlock whose artistic talents have also helped to make our book unique. Our editors, Joan Lodge, Mike Preston, Nancy Horn, Sharon Dunphy, and Ricky Kover, have done wonderful jobs. We thank them all. To our advisors, Mr. William Berg, Mr. Mario Russo, Mrs. Ida Shimans, Mr. Thomas Kennedy, and Mr. Phillip St. Pierre, we owe much gratitude. There is one member of our class who has worked double-time all year long; without her THE ROCK would never have been able to roll financially. This special note of thanks goes to our “candy girl,” Rosanne Zangrillo. Here is the twenty-fifth edition of THE ROCK. Here in its pages is the Class of 1961. 2 Editor-in-Chief v Assistant Editor-in-Chief Alice and Mike The Photography Staff Richard Roth, Mike Preston, photography editor; Joan Lodge, co-editor; and Heather Walton. The Financial Staff Don Niddrie, Joan Lindberg. Bob Hughes, Richard Kover, financial editor; and Rosanne Zangrillo.

Mr. Plunkett, Mrs. Plunkett with John and Mary. Although our four years in high school have flown by, vve will always remember Mr. Plunkett with deep fondness and admiration as our dearest friend. He has stood beside us in both our triumphs and our defeats, and through it all he has shown us the path to confidence, faith, and understanding. As our class advisor Mr. Plunkett has given us many-wonderful things to remember: Rock Rivalry rehearsals and class meetings, the Junior Prom, and many money-making schemes. During our four years with Mr. Plunkett he has helped us to find ourselves, to mold our characters, and to lose our prejudices. He taught us not only to think for ourselves as individuals, but also to cooperate and work as a group. As a lasting tribute we dedicate this most treasured possession, the culmination of four years of work, the 1961 ROCK to you, Mr. Plunkett, the person to whom we owe the most thanks and the person to whom we arc most grateful. You taught us our lessons well, and we will never forget them or you. Thanks, Mr. Plunkett. 5
