MRS. MERSON An addition to our faculty this year, Mrs. Merson teaches the fundamentals of English grammar and introduces English literature to her aspiring eighth grade pupils. MR. PLUNKETT Mr. Plunkett’s factual views on present-day problems keep his pupils abreast of important world happenings. His summer Andiron seminars prepared Seniors for the Regents Scholarship Exam. His informal teaching methods reminded us of a country squire. MRS. MESKE The French and Latin departments are kept busy by the competent instruction of Mrs. Meske, also French and Latin Club adviser. Her French pronunciation drills can be heard throughout the school while Latin verb tests and instruction fill the interim. MR. POLLOCK “Mr. Bowler’s” classes are lively, to say the least. Add a dash of humor, blend with imaginative talcs, garnish with pignolia nuts and you have a freshman Social Studies class. MISS O’DEA Miss O’Dca, a new face in East Rockaway’s teaching staff works the late shift in the afternoon, teaching eighth graders. She has the important job of preparing her junior high social studies pupils for the more difficult senior high work. MRS. REILLY Through Mrs. Reilly’s instruction, firm foundations of English grammar, literature, and language skills are implanted in the minds of seventh and eighth graders. Her dry wit and imperturbable manner make her classes extremely popular with all her students. MR. PELLICANE Mr. Pellicane, popular cam- paigner for band rights, holds forth in the auditorium, leading the band with capable baton. Through his diligent and competent instruction the band earned an “A” rating in statewide competition last year. MR. ROSCOE Mr. Roscoe, a new addition to our faculty this year, has freshman hearts all aflutter with his talk of cells and Pascal’s principle. 14

MRS. HOWARD In her return as a full time member of the faculty, Mrs. Howard already has re-earned her reputation as a ‘‘top notch” teacher. MRS. LALLY Cheerful, energetic Mrs. Lally is the person who will usually be there with a band-aid or a word to the wise. Her oft-heard call, “You can come down for your hearing test now,” will always seem to be part of E.R.H.S. MR. KALLMAN Mr. Kallman taught us a com- prehensive course in both General Science and Elementary Algebra. He also impressed upon us the importance of neatness and accuracy in all our work. MR. LaMERE Although famous for his sage advice to our driver education classes, such as “Don’t forget to say ‘Bccp-bccp’!,” Mr. LaMcre will be remembered by most for his interesting theory classes, scrapbooks, and his final exams. MR. KENNEDY Known for his mechanical drawing classes and his lively study halls, “Mr. T-Squarc” has grown popular with East Rockaway's boys and girls. MISS LORENZ One of the most admired of all our teachers here at East Rockaway is Miss Lorenz. Her courage and perseverence, an inspiration to all, have won a place for her in the heart of every student. MR. KIRSCH Preparing us for college and the business world, Mr. Kirsch, with his satirical sense of humor is popular for his surprise quizzes and impromptu speeches. MISS McCORD Because of Miss McCord's efforts, not a year passes without a group of winning girls’ teams. Giving every girl the basic rules of girls' sports, she also instructs the girls in the technical skills of these games.

MR. RUCKDESCHEL A wit in his own right, “Schel” is also famous for his well-disciplined shop classes. His infinite patience has enabled him to coordinate capably the operation of this yearbook as well as many past ones. MRS. SUITS Seventh and eighth graders learn the fundamentals of mathematics and the basis of high school history courses from capable and friendly Mrs. Suits. MR. SACKMAN Finding himself in the guidance office this year, Mr. Sackman is perhaps best remembered for his unusual English classes. He has already made a mark, however, in his new field of preparing Seniors for college. MR. WHEELER Mr. Wheeler aids aspiring young men and women to learn the secrets of good business. His executive manner and friendly disposition earn him the best cooperation possible from his students. MRS. SHIMANS Under the direction of Mrs. Shimans, the art department runs efficiently and smoothly. It was she who introduced us to the basic arts and made a great impression on us. MRS. YETTER Mrs. Yettcr makes sure that our education in the skills of reading and word usage will not be neglected. It was from her that we learned that all r’s must have a point.
