Although they won only four of their ten matches, they were a consistent threat to any team in the league. Setting the pace for the Rocks was Bill Kellerman who rolled a sizzling high series of 568 and concluded the season with an overall average of 162. GIRLS’ BOWLING The girls’ bowling team bowls every Monday on the Oceanside alleys. These keg-lerettes have won and lost the same number of matches but their fine skill showed when they placed fourth in the girls’ bowling play-day. Honor team members are: Margie Gorr, Joan Intemann, Betty Smith, Carol Loewinger, and Carole Krueger. 1st Row, left to right: M. Gorr, J. Intemann, B. Smith, C. Loewinger, C. Krueger. 2nd Row: W. Ross, N. Loscarso, P. Goza, J. Ziegler, J. Gobroski, G. Wetterstedt, C. Hoch. 23

22 The gym echoes with the swish of raquets and the pounding of racing feet when the girls’ badminton team engages in this sport of old India. Miss Emily Goodwin coached the girls in the methods of getting the elusive shuttlecock over the high net and Nancy Edwards made the semifinals of the play-offs at Oceanside. Each Thursday afternoon during the Spring and Autumn, East Rockaway's more active horse lovers, under the sponsorship of Miss Emily Goodwin, are bounced happily over to the Bilt-more Stables in the faithful hearse. The three classes, Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced, trained hard and faithfully with their favorite mounts for the annual horse show held at the end of the Fall season. Nancy Edwards became the 5th consecutive East Rockaway girl to take top honors in the show. Left to right: Mr. Maynard, M. Mac Aleese, J. Musgrove, E. Hennefeld, P. Goza, G. Yasvin, M. Vanderschuyt, M. Schwenker, N. Edwards, P. Day, H. Bantzhaff, C. Smyles, P. Wehmann, P. Austin, J. Austin.

SENIOR PLAY Our Hearts Were Young and Gay” as presented this year by the Senior Class was a successful dramatic production long-to-be remembered by the cast as well as the audience. Who will ever forget Bob Barker’s authentic French accent, the wobbly double-decker bunk bed, Jack Settele’s very efficient 3rd Act manner, Cornelia’s measles, and Emily’s ballet? Barbara Meske as the ever-so-worldly Cornelia and Phyllis Greene as her naive, nutty side-kick, Emily, kept the audience laughing. The Senior cast owes a gret of (latitude” to Mrs. Marion Howard and to Miss Agnes Hickman for their untiring efforts and help, and last but not least to the men behind the scenes, Mr. T” and his stage crew ’’Host,” Kell, Willie,” Reidy,” Harry, Charlie, and Carboy, whose creative abilities transformed the stage into a ship’s stateroom. 24
