FOOTBALL The cold winds, the hard practices, the sweat, the dirt, all are realistic reminders of the past football season. Under the friendly dictatorship of Nevin Judd, Richard Hermanson, Luther Kirsch, and Douglas Sackman, the Rocks of the ’50 season sandwiched an exciting season between their opening loss to a powerful Manhasset squad and their final conquest of Long Beach in the last game of the season. High point of the season was the 13-to-6 victory over Lynbrook on the greensward of Allen Field. Hard-fought ties with Woodmere, Westhampton Beach and Eastern Military Academy and losses to Roslyn and Oyster Bay rounded out the schedule. The defensive play of co-captain Joe Carrigan, Harry Breul and Charlie Craig rocked the opposing offenses back on their heels while co-captain Willie Waine, Eddie Goldman and Don Reid rolled up the yardage for East Rockaway Win, lose or draw it was a thrilling season for the followers of the Rocks. 20

22 The gym echoes with the swish of raquets and the pounding of racing feet when the girls’ badminton team engages in this sport of old India. Miss Emily Goodwin coached the girls in the methods of getting the elusive shuttlecock over the high net and Nancy Edwards made the semifinals of the play-offs at Oceanside. Each Thursday afternoon during the Spring and Autumn, East Rockaway's more active horse lovers, under the sponsorship of Miss Emily Goodwin, are bounced happily over to the Bilt-more Stables in the faithful hearse. The three classes, Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced, trained hard and faithfully with their favorite mounts for the annual horse show held at the end of the Fall season. Nancy Edwards became the 5th consecutive East Rockaway girl to take top honors in the show. Left to right: Mr. Maynard, M. Mac Aleese, J. Musgrove, E. Hennefeld, P. Goza, G. Yasvin, M.
