Austin STUDENT COUNCIL LATIN CLUB This year, as in previous years, the Student Council has been an active organization. It approved the newly formed Art Club, patched up the Rock Rivalry rules and voted on a method for computing senior averages. The officers are: John MacHarg, president; Barbara Meske, vice-president; Jane Gobroski, secretary; and Joan Warner, treasurer. Gladys Olson and William Berg are the faculty advisers. Latin may be a dead language but the members of the Forum Romanum, advised by Mrs. Dorothy Meske, certainly have proved otherwise. The highlight of the year's activities was the treasure hunt with the clues in Latin at the Christmas party. The annual picnic was also an event to be remembered by all the pueri and puellae. SERVICE SQUAD With new squads added to its roster every year the Service Squad has proved an indispen-sible part of the school. Everyone knows the hall cops who tell you to walk up the stairs, the receptionists who give visitors directions, the lunchroom squad and the movie squad who always work in the dark. Gladys Olson and William Berg are the advisers who are responsible for the Service Squad's fine work. LIBRARY COUNCIL The newly-formed combination of the junior and senior high library clubs has proved very successful. The council members all do their best to help Miss Hickman run the library efficiently. The officers are Barbara Meske, president; Georgianna Ullmann, vice-president; Eileen Kasold, treasurer; Shirley Pedersen, secretary. 1st Row, left to right: J. Bartels, J. Bartels, L. Kinnier, L. SPANISH CLUB FRENCH CLUB The Spanish Club, advised by Miss Holten, high-lighted it’s year with a gigantic party in which a play was given by the club members. A Spanish movie was shown, and refreshments were served. An active organization this year, the Spanish Club is headed by Carol Loewinger, president; Robert James, vice-president; and Nancy Combs, secretary-treasurer. “La stance est ouverte! are the first words heard at the meetings of Le Cercle Fran ;ais. This club, newly formed last year, is right in the swing of things and is becoming one of the most active clubs in the school. In order to further interest in the language for conversational purposes, the meetings are conducted entirely in French by our capable president, Barbara Meske. The other officers are: le vice-president, Phyllis Greene; le secretaire, Robert Schade; le tresoriere. Iris Bird. I st Row, left to right: A. Brouillet, N. Edwards, C. Hoch. 2nd row: Mrs. Meske, A.
