English Department Left to right: Mrs. A. Reilly, Miss A. Hickman, Mr. L. H. Kirsch, Miss M. Lorenz, Mr. M. D. Sackman. When did Rome fall? What was the early name for East Rockaway? What are the principal products of Lower Slobovia? If you don’t know, consult the Social Studies Department. They try to teach us a little about the thousand-ring circus that is our world. Mrs. Elizabeth Yetter, Miss Gertrude Decker and Mr. William Berg comprise the staff of this section, one of the largest groups in the school. As the result of the instruction of these teachers we have learned everything from nouns to the faults of Macbeth's character; from Evangeline’s plight to the proper use of lay and lie. Mrs. Reilly’s dry sense of humor, Miss Lorenz’s informal style, Mr. Sack-man’s volatile temperament, Mr. Kirsch’s stratospheric style and Miss Hickman’s friendly attitude help to add variety to our classes and make school a pleasure. 8 Social Studies Department Left to right: Mr. W. Berg, Mrs. E. Yetter, Miss G. Decker.

Left to right: Dr. H. Stud well, Mr. E. Smith, Dr. A Scimeca, Mr. H. Sherman Mr. R. Rape. Mr. H. Gess ner, Mr. H. Proctor, Mr. N Mott. Parent -T eacher Association Board of Education One of the organizations of the school that deserves our congratulations and thanks is the Parent-Teacher Association. Under the able direction of Mrs. C. Wheeler Laue, the president, the P.T.A. tries to create understanding between parents and teachers and also to benefit the students of the school. Two of their commendable activities are the annual scholarship presented to a worthy Senior at graduation, and the Christmas program where anyone and everyone may see and hear the music department present beautiful Christmas music. Governing the affairs and policies of the East Rockaway School district is the Board of Education. Mr. Robert C. Pape and the other members of the Board have given freely of their time to help us with our problems and to improve our school. To them and Dr. Harold F. Studwell we owe our efficient administration, our excellent teaching staff, and our friendly atmosphere. Left to right. Seated: Mr. L. Rothston, Mr. M. D. Sack-man, Mrs. C. W. Laue, Mrs. H. Hunting, Mrs. R. Reese. Standing: Mrs. H. Sherman, Mrs. B. Nolan, Mrs. A. Dur-so, Dr. H. Bormann, Mrs. R. Barker, Mrs. O. V. Gerth. 7

Mathematics Department Left to right: Miss G. Olson, Miss E. M. Goodwin, Miss G. Decker, Mr. A. S. Tutun-jian. Shh! Genius at work, Q0H22O11 + H20 plus a mysterious herb gives an inky colored brew.” No, that isn't the secret formula for making a powerful acid. That is just Herm” making coffee for the school nurse, Mrs. Lally and the biologist, 7th and 8th grade science teacher, Mr. Aschoff. It is through the efforts of these people that our health is guarded and our knowledge of science is stimulated and increased. Proving 2 equals 1 doesn't seem too difficult after all. King Tut” seems to be having little trouble with the three sceptics, Miss Gladys Olson, Miss Emily Mary Goodwin, and Miss Gertrude Decker. This year the math department has had three new additions in the persons of Miss Decker, Miss Goodwin and King Tut.” Due to its two-fold tongue-twisting tone the name Mr. Albert Souirou Tutunjian has been slightly modified to simply King Tut or Mr. T.” With such capable additions and the continued excellent work of Miss Gladys Olson, the math department should prove one of the best in the school. Science Department Left to right: Mr. E. Aschoff, Mr. R. Hermanson, Mrs. M. Lally.
