Although not a championship in its name. the 1948 football turned in a championship team in its fight and spirit. The hnal record was three wins. two losses. and two ties. Our hrst game was a tie with Newark, following this game was another with Brighton. Then we beat St. Francis DeSales and lrondequoit. Then tragedy struck and we lost two in 21 row going to Hornell and Webster. Then came the game of the year with our chief rivals Fairport. The game was close all the way. but East Rochester held on to the Little llrow n lug with a 27-20 victory. For another year. night football proved very successful because every home game was packed. On the All-County from East Rochester were Pete Quinzi. Nick Dellare. Pat Petti. and Hay Setter. Congratulations go to the football team and their coaches for a successful season. 9 ,--Q.. Mr. 0'Don- nell and Mr. Ubourn. plus Mrs. Saunders and Miss liently. much was accomplished. We had as our President. Achille Delterardinis. He was chosen by the student body because of his citizenship and leadership ability. His enthusiasm was ever present and he certainly did a fine job. Our Vice-President was Robert Mast. who was also chosen by the student body. We were con- stantly losing our secretaries. for one reason or another. but Ermina Perry was finally chosen. The first important act of the Student Council was the increasing of the Student Association Fee because of higher prices. A plan whereby students could obtain their basketball Season Pass-books on the installment plan was also put into effect. C.A. RE. collections were made in each home- room and the campaign proved very successful. We sincerely hope that the Senior Student Council of next year will do as fine a job for the student body as was done this year. 10 Honor Society This year. the members of the Honor Society haye become accustomed to the problems of a moxing world. The object of the club is two-fold: It gives stu- dents an opportunity to learn basic routines which may be used later in various types of work: also it relieves the Librarian of some of the detail work. thus enabling him to devote more time to personal work with students. Membership in the organization requires only that the student maintain a fair grade of scholar- ship. and have at least one period a week which he may devote to working in the Librarv. Formerly the Library Club was active as a social organization. Now there are so many extra- curricular activities and so much supervised youth activities in the evening. outside the school that the Club conhnes its activities to work in the Librarv. The experience of the last 20 vears indicates that those who have worked in the'Librarv recall that phase of their school life with pleasure.. Many of them report that the experience was a great help to them when they began to earn their living. Ill Ill Ill Ill ' T2 as ff .. The Brown and White whipped Newark and Gene- seo in order to gain the finals. The Painted Post game was a nip and tuck affair from start to finish with neither team taking a com- manding lead. The excellent team play throughout the game resulted in an outstanding victory. Back Row.' This quotation best describes the 1948-1949 quintet. The Brown and White posted an 18-3 record. Brighton handed E.R.H.S. its first league set-back, but two nights later the locals lowered the boom on the Barons, 4-6-32, for the county crown, our fourth in succession. Q The Pianotowners stopped an eleven game Newark win- ning streak, 44-29, in the quarter finals of the sectionals. Geneseo, with an 18-1 record, dropped a 47-37 decision to our boys. ln the finals E.R.H.S. defeated Painted Post, 42-35, in a thriller, as Calabrese and company played terrific basket- ball. Don 0'Brien, Vienne and Calabrese, made the all-county and all-sectionals teams, as Collins, Ricci, Magoon, DeBer- ardinis, Setter, and Hagberg closed out their high school careers. 20 Ir. Although the team won only one game and tied one, many of the matches were closer than the score indicates. For instance, in losing one match to Pittsford Don Whitmire lost to ,lack Keane 6-4, 6-4g Bob Rocco beat Dan Tack 8-6, 8-63 and the doubles team, Lane and Grant, lost to Sens and Patchen 6-2, 6-4. Prospects for this year are excellent nevertheless. Since it takes several years to develop a tennis player, younger boys in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades are induced to come out this season and practice. 36 From left: Slee- man.
