There, while considering registration plans we noticed a young man stride into the assembly. llc arouseil much comment, l'or many ol' us speculated as to the iilentity ol' this person. Our anxiety was linally quelleil when some ol' the more worlally-wisc members informeml us that this was none other than the ncw principal, Mr. 'l'heo4lorc li. H. Morgan. Anal we hail thought him to be a l4'resluuan! Nevertheless we ailapteil ourselves with remark- able ease to high school lil'e anal, in a short time, the well-known green was quickly failing out. lt was not until the Sophomore year, however, that we became more important. lhu'ing.g' this year, many members ot' our class became outstanding in ilramatics, athletics, publications, anal musical activities. Also, to make the year a complete success, the class ol' '34 was the winncr ol' the Olympic Trophy. During this year, several ol' the class were subjected to a clelig.g'htl'ul experience, unpreccilenteil in local his- tory. A certain Miss I -uniler the influence of either our irresistible personalities, or more probably the weather, entirely tlisregarileil the customary linal exams anml plannetl for us an early morning breakfast at Sandy Creek. liuring' our Junior year, untler the leadership ol' lfllsie Carnecke, wc amlvanceal with leaps antl bounds. Our biggest event was the Junior Prom. 'l'hc gymnasium was uniquely clecoratetl anil, in spite of the visit ol' .lupe l'luvius, the clance proved a great success. A Junior Picnic was hchl at lluranil Eastman and a. little later our class gave a picnic l'or the Senior Class. The class of 19234 again carried off the Olympic honors and was presented the trophy. Our Senior year was markeml with several accomplishments. The lirst. big' success oi' this year was our Senior Ball which was again hehl during' a rainstorm. Our Senior Party was one of the most enjoyable events that we experienced during' our high school years. Later we helcl ticket and magazine selling' contests and now our class is happy successfully to publish this annual. ln conclusion. we will say that the class of 1934 can olier to the Who's Who of ltlast Rochester lligh School a long' list of members who have been outstanding' in scholarship, athletics, mlramatics, musical 0l'g'ilIllZZlti0llS, publications, assemblies, and all the other high school affairs and activities. L- Les Camarades At the beginning of the fall semester Mr. Potter gathered' a few students to- gether to form a French Club. Officers were elected and later on new members were added. In order to become a member of this organization it is necessary to have a scholastic average of 80 or above. The club has succeeded rather well in its enterprises. Meetings are held every two weeks at member's homes or in school. During these meetings different topics are discussed, and little entertainments are given. Everyone speaks in French and this greatly aids the students to speak the language more fluently. Although this club is rather .new and is working on an experimental basis, the members hope to establish it tirmly here. The club also has hopes of joining one of the larger organiza- tions in the city schools, thus establishing itself as a successful organization for education and recreation. ADVISORS MR. W. N. S. as a whole has sueeeeded tremendously well in taking up the many walks of life that eonfront them after graduation from high sehool. Some are taking advantage of oppor- tunities to further their educationg some have made use of these opportunities and are now reaping their profits, and some have un- grudgingly taken life's burdens in full upon themselves and are fast developing into the real Ameriean people who take what eomes, be what it may. Several eolleges have the honor of being hosts to former East Roehester students and are finding that the preparation gained in our high sehool is nothing that might be termed ordinary. At the University ol' Roehester Carmela Santomieri graduates with one ot' those lasting rememliranees, a Phi Beta Kappa key. Others who are aspiring at the University are: Dolores Sehwink, Margaret Nletiurk, Norman Siems, Benjamin Beach, Marvin 'l'aillie and Robert tiroh. Francis Milligan graduates this June. Broclqiort Normal has Norman Lyons, Arnold Stenner, Eugene Bouchard and llubert Davies. The H. B. I. is honored with Marion Brady and Bettina Lindsay. Girls' Sports kindly l our years ago the point system had its beginning in girls' sports. lt is obvious that it is a great amelioration over former practices, for now a greater number ot' girls are represented in all sports. The former practice ot' varsity teams for all of the sports demanded girls oi' exceptional ability for sports to represent the school, thus allowing practically the same girls to represent the school in all the sports. Now out ot' 213 girls in the high school, 2208 participate in sports. This winter the popular game ot' ping pong had been introduced and a great number ot' girls signed up for that sport. Under the dili- gent guidance ot' Miss tlrenelle a ping pong tournament was carried out successfully. The faculty ot the East Rochester High School are now being well represented in sports-namely basketball and horseback riding. The basketball season terminated with a closely matched game between the teachers and the girls' honor team. The teachers proved to be as sprightly and agile as their adolescent opponents. To invigorate the teachers' interest in sports, they too are to be awarded insignias for their participation in sports. An ever increasing number'of girls are turning out for the various sports and also for the newly introduced sports: ping pong and horse- back riding. To the Victor Richard Brown, known to all his friends as Skeets, came running across the campus of Hampden College at a terrific speed, and landed exhausted on the fraternity house steps. It was unusual to see Skeets in such a mood, .because he was the sort of person who was known to take matters calmly. Just at that moment, his rival in the half-mile, Jim Hanley appeared: o.n the scene. Jim was a good chap, but always acted as if he were just a little bit better than the other fellow. Say there, cried Jim, how long do you expect to remain a simpleton. Remem- ber, today is the big day. Skeets cast a sinister smile that forced Jim to shrink back. Well, well, chuckled Skeets, why .don't you submit an alibi for your unexpected disappearance, this morning? The coach has had me searching the entire grounds for that lithe body of yours. Well, drawledf Jim, I thought that I'd better take a rest. The Olympics is quite strenuous on a fellow, you know. Skeets was as yet, unable to breathe normally. l-lere's the idea, Jim. The coach has been in an ill temper this morning, and I don't advise you to see him now. I've got to get rested up before this afternoon. Skeets rose and ran up the steps into the fraternity house, leaving Jim with a questioning look .on his countenance. And now, the scene shifts to the Olympics, that afternoon. Gosh, Jim mumbled under his breath, I should have told Skeets that I was down at 'Hank's' playing pool. Oh! he'll never find out. Drat .it, there's the coach, when, l just missed him. Here comes Skeets. Hi! Skeets! Where's the rest of the team? This is no time for talking, Jim. Hurry up! The coach is waiting for us. 'l'he two boys hastened to join the rest of the team, one .being as anxious as the ether to win the race. The line up! Bang! They are off! Good luck! cried Skeets, as he dashed forward. What a friend! thought Jim, How will I ever repay him. He must have lied to the coach about me. 'I'hey were approaching the endf of the half-mile. Skeets was .coming in fifth, and Jim third. There was the enthusiastic crowd waiting in suspense. 1 l've g-got to m-make it for the t-team and Skeets, murmured Jim. Just as Jim moved up to first place and broke through the line, he felt a light touch on his shoulder. Skeets! You m-made it, Jim. Jim forgot the victory, the trophy, the crowd and its cheers, as he saw Skeets fall to the ground, exhausted. When Skeets regained consciousness he said to Jim: Good work, Jim, the team owes its success to you. No, it doesn't Skeets. The victory of Hampden College belongs to you. You've ,handed me the key to victory, Sportsmanship. 9 Page Sixty-seven G f ,fb '3 '3' ' 5 3.
