Mr. Shockley throughout his life manifested a sincere interest in education, particularly in night- school education. He had a deep sympathy for those who were working by day and studying by night. He appeared frequently at East Night to speak to the student body. His oratory was elo- quent, his messages were inspiring. For the past fifteen years he acted as judge at our oratorical contests. He loved oratory and we always felt honored to have him attend as a judge. All who knew Mr. Shockley were impressed by his brilliancy of mind, his nobility of character, his courteous and genial disposition, his fine gen- tility. He was an inspiration to all and gave evidence of what a superior education means in the life of a person. Here was a man after whom one might safely pattern, for his was the mold of sterling worth. We honor his memory and hope that East Night may produce citizens like Albert D. Shockley.
