BAND Activities were greatly curtialed this year because of gas and rubber rationing so that the actual number of publlc performances were few At tle Student Body play varlous marches such as 'Brasses to the Front' nW8ShlDgtOD Postn, 'On the Malln, and others were played The band's last performance was at graduatlon. Members of the band include Leroy COPPIH, Herman Chrlsty and B111 Houck, trumpets Jack Davls, Phyll1s Flnch, Adin Govette, Dlck Nelson and Charleen Sevier, clarinets, Leste1 Foster and Margorie Hieter, trombones, Mary Gutierez and Charles Goyette, baritones, Zella Swetzer, Xylophone Marllyn Cullers and Ann Paige, drums, and Ruth Cullers, saxophone A dance band was formed toward the middle of the semester It has been practic1ng two and th ee times a week and shows promise of turnlng 1ntO good dance band Mo t of the song hits from the Wbig ten' are included in the repertolre Its memb rs 1nclude Jack Davls, Dean Van Dyke, Bob Gallagher, Dlck Nelson ana Kenneth Swetzer, Saxophones Leroy Coppin and Joe Goyette, trumpets, Clyde Riggan, trombone, Marllyn Cullers, drum, HOME ECONONIC'S CLUB The activities of the club, l1ke those of VETIOUS other organizations have been greatly reduced by the war. However, everal dlnners were given, among them, one for the Rebekah Lodge and one in honor of the faculty and trustees. This was exceptionally outstandlng with Christmas decoratlons. Every year the Spanish class 13 honored with a dinner by the Home Economic gi ls This year the students were compelled to speak in Spanish only. CThese teacherskj We enjoyed lt lmmensely even lf we couldn't under stand a word they said! The girls feel they have accomplished much th1s year Outside of the usual routlne of cooking, sewing, and seeing varlous movles on vitamins, etc., they have done consid rable graft work The officers were as fO1lOW1Dg Presldent, Edna Ashfield, Vice Pres., Margorie Pieter, Reprcsentatlve, Phyllis Finch, Secretary, LOUISE Zgraggen. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA EAST NICOLAUS CHAPTER 55 President Vice Pres Secretary, Treasurer Reporter Advisor Mr Hawthorne Louis Ettlin Joe Goyette Bill McW1lliam Adin Goyette Jim Sllls When school opened 1n September our organization found itself w1thout the services of five young men who for four years helped to make the East Nicolaus Chapter one of the outstanding clubs among the schools in Northern California One of these members, Leo Michel, was elected to the degree of State Farmer in May and is continuing as an active graduate member Early 1n the year the service took our President, Louls Ettlin, which left us with two seniors, Bill McWill1am and Joe Goyette This condition coupled with the fact that Freshmen could not take agr1culture this year left the burden of running our organization largely to the Sophomores The fact that these boys came through almost one hundred per cent 1n supportlng our vlctory farmlng program speaks xell for them The1r projects thls year consisted malnly of victory gardens, rabbits, beef cattle, sheep and record keeplng, In the latter category Irvin Schwall's project book consisting of records on one thousand five hundred laylng hens was judged one of the best in the Sacramento valley The Future Farmers ended a successful year with a very successful Barn Dance on A9211 30 22 1 0 Q ' o a o Q s o I O Q I I 9 Farm Watch Dog . . . . . . . . . . . . : . . . .
