TRIBUTE TO THE EAST LONGMEADOW Since its inception in 1951, the East Longmeadow Scholarship Foundation has helped a total of 431 academicians on the road to a higher education. The Foundation, originally conceived by the P.T.A. to provide financial aid for young residents of East Longmeadow, has through the years awarded over $115,000 in scholarships. The funds provided to students are realized by contributions from local businesses, clubs, an annual house to house drive for funds, and gifts given to the Personal Rememberance Fund, honoring or in memory of friends. Amoung the awards given are the East Longmeadow Education Association Scholarship Award, the Cynthia Wade Memorial Award, given to students who plan a career in nursing, and the Lions Club Scholarship Award. Through the efforts of this fine organization many local students have gained an opportunity for a better education and, because of this, the foundation deserves great commendation. I 26
