CLASS HISTORY MARGARET F CCGHLAN 23 ,A FTER having successfully mounted ei ht steps of the ladder Q90 N of knowled e our class of l923 entered upon its first real new w hi h school work in the fall of l9l9 317' As Freshmen we encountered many than s which filled our little hearts with horror Mr Buchanan our new Superlnten dent cau ed our hearts to flutter and our knees to shake whenever he looked at us with his piercin gaze By the way that gaze seems to have the same effect upon us now when we are strug lmv with Civics and Economics' Mr Thie was our new principal and he was our class advisor dur in the time that we were sailing the Green sea of our freshman year He surely helped us to live up to our class motto Green but Urowin Our class officers that year were Norma Schmitt President Lewis Secor Vice President and Margaret Coghlan Secretary Treasurer Other members of the class were Lee Beaumont Margaret Button Lin den Boch Carleton COTVIH Gladys Churchill Beulah Crawford Verna Church Gertrude Donley Flossie Donley Donald Hendershott Dun can Hudson Marene Hendryx lrene Hendryx Manfred ohnston ulia Mar aret Shoesmlth Charles Sweetman Eu ene Towner Elizabeth Woodworth Burdette Wise and Margaret Wald At the close of the year Lewis Secor moved to Bay City Lee Beau mont to Florida Edwin Millard to Grand Ledve Charles Sweetman to Detroit and Linden Boch to Dewitt Mar aret Button Gladys Churchill Marene Hendryx lrene Hendryx and Vivian Rose left school As our mental powers waxed stronver we advanced another step on the ladder of knowled e Donald Hendershott was our President that year and Miss Crocker our class advisor Of course we lived up to the reputation of the name sophomore and were exceedm ly 5 wx e 555 and very peppy To impress our importance upon the mmds of the umors we gave a Sophomore Hop which far excelled the Hop in our opinions at least' Mabel Biery came to us from Greenville that year and Gladys Klnney from Lansing At the close of the year Margaret Wald moved to Columbus Ohio The faculty finally decided that we were too bri ht to be sopho mores so we moved into the unior rows ln the assembly room Our unior year was a very eventful one Miss Raven was our class ad visor and in her quiet way aided us in plannm our class activities The .IHop was the best ever so the uniors thought and in une we honored the worthy 51 Seniors by Giving the umor Senior recep tion Our class was enlarged in our unior year by the following new students Eva Allen Arthur Allen Russell Roberts Robert Hulett Anna Strayer Gladys Gubbms and Spencer Worthington all from Okemos H1 h School and Amy Perry from Oak Grove High School At the close of the year Elizabeth Woodworth felt that East Lan sinv was too small a place for her so she moved to Detroit and is now attendin Northern High School there Gladys Gubbms Anna Strayer 11-1--103 in-1 inioioifwxoz--30434 in 1'-1:1 ii -1 '14 in :nie-1 34-101:-14 . ,Eva X .
