Scholastic competition amoriq the homerocms created better study halnts and higher grade paint averages. Sophomores Sharon Baker and Marlon-i Smith lock tc see where their hornermims stand. Competition among the homerooms helped promote greater interest in scholarship throughout East High. Each nine Weeks the Student Council awarded a pennant to the home- room with the highest average. The Citizenship Committee stressed good attendance, collected food for the needy at Christmas time, chose study hall chairmen and interpreted proper procedure in conducting council election. The program provided tor assigning each committee member as a guide to a new stu- dent to show him around school. To close the threeeday orientation program in the tall the group sponsored a picnic at Gates Park. The committee also sent Christmas cards to the concerns in Waterloo with which the ORIENTATION COMMITTEE Guiding the Newcomer Marilyn l-loldgraler, lane Burke, Karen Sheeley and Karen Mohs find that addressing the com- mittee's Christmas cards is no small job. lt's so much more fun when you know how might well be the theme for this party for all those students who had taken Orientation Com- mittee-sponsorecl dancing lessons. school does business, city public schools, the school board, custodians, cafeteria personnel and all schools we have played in athletic contests.
