Early last September the Trojan Staff began taking pictures and organizing plans for the 1956 yearbook. Because enthusiasm for our school and its activities was unusually out- standing, the group chose the theme Cheer, cheer for East Waterloo to provide continu- ity for the book. Eager to produce an exceptional account of the year, the staff worked nights and after school as well as Saturdays to meet picture and copy deadlines. Following a competition for cover designs, the staff chose the one submitted by Ernie Smith, sophomore student from India. When queried about it, Ernie said he hoped it would convey the idea of the torch of enthusiasm which all Trojans hold high. Wrestlers Post Successful Season Dan Carey appears to be firmly entangled, but escapes and goes on to win over this Waliqwk. Our Trojan wrestlers surged through another successful season this year winning 10, tying one, and losing only one. The powerful grapplers gained such decisive scores as 47-O, 45-O and 376 over North Des Moines, East Des Moines and Newton, respectively. The one loss was to city rival West, 2l'l4, and the tie was to Mason City, 19-19. The matmen took second place in the Dis- trict Meet and sixth place in the State Meet. WRESTLING SQUAD The team produced one state champion, Gerald McDonald, at 154 pounds, and one at second place, Dan Carey, at 103 pounds. The reserves went through an undefeated season, winning eight and losing or tying none. This shows promise ot another success- iul season next year because these reserves will be taking over the varsity posts vacated by the seven graduating letter winners.
