Hanna and his family arrived at a spot on the East of the Red Cedar on Iuly 10, 1845, they could only dream of a future oi a thriving city would dot the landscape then covered with of lush blue grass. Until 1851 they called their settlement Prairie Rapids. In 1851, when the post otiice was established, the citizens christened the Waterloo, for they predicted it was to be the scene of a great yictory. Iune 24, 1854, the city fathers recorded the plat of the town.
