Parties Spark Social Whirl East became a gala arcade and a busy television center at two of the semester's biggest parties. Stu- dents tilled the Halls oi Troy finding fun, food and testivity throughout the building. The Trojan Arcade and EWHS-TV were part of the social activities planned by the social committee. Council Establishes Governing Policies The first and third Monday mornings ot each month find our student council engrossed in considering the Welfare and activities of the East High community. Once cr month they devote a two-hour session to important cur- rent issues. To these meetings the represen- tatives carry the opinions of the students in each homeroom. Following the meetings they report business and discuss the session with their homerooms. Under the capable leadership of President Frank Bloomquist the council had a success- STUDENT COUNCIL ful year. Two ot the more important projects were deciding to adopt the Foreign Exchange Student Plan, which will go into effect next year, and carrying on a campaign to em- phasize scholarship. Cooperating in promot- ing the scholarship program were the citizen- ship committee and the art department. Ability Plus Action Auditorium committee, with lack Garrett as chairman, planned weekly programs. Co- chairmen of orientation committee, Gene Fortune and Marlys Niedert, helped to ac- quaint new students with East and corres- ponded with neighboring schools. Citizenship Chairman Lloyd Willbrandt directed his committee in school-wide pro- motion campaigns. Dick Dahl, chairman of publicity and promotions committee, publi- cized the school events of the year. Social Chairman loan Strudthott and her committee planned the social calendar tor East. Mariys Niedert, co-chairman of orientation committee, puts the finishing touches on the designing of Christmas cards sent to neighboring schools. The auditorium and publicity and pro- motions committees combinecl their skills to promote the annual sale with Are you cr NAIORT? Eight categories con- nected with school activities were a choice for the student contestants. Orientation committee introduced the new teachers to the student body in an auditorium at the opening of the school year. Equals Achievement to be Again the orientation committee goes to work giving the students who chose dancing lessons in the little theater. 14
