Trojan leather luggers. led hy hacks Ed Cihson and John Hollingsworth. set a new team scoring record of 2l2 points while ex- ceptional line play. particularly hy tackle Don Head. held the opposition to an eleven year low of 20 points. Exhihiting thc never-say-die spirit that made them truly great in our gridiron history, the tackling 'l'rojans came through against an inspired West team to crown themselves city champs for the third consecutive year and remain undefeated in Wlississippi Valley Conference play. thus capturing the cham- pionship ol' that league for the seconll time in as many years. .fitlracted hy the colorful play ol' the high- scoring Nlen ol' illroy. spectators turned out in sufficient numhers to set new attendance marks at hoth home stadiums. Fort Dodge and East Des Moines. where the Orange and Black juggernaut crushed their opponents -ll-I2 to set a new individual game scoring record and defeat the Scarlet lads lor the lirsl time in the school's history on their own licld. Coach Rall'ensperger's charges were well received in the Associated Press All-State se- lections with Jim Mcliinstry taking over the quarterhack spot on the first eleven and Don Head and John Hollingsworth. who set a new individual scoring record of 73 points. re- ceiving tackle and fullhack herths respectively on the second team.
