May the best lcam win. For Brawn and Beaut Boys' gym classes this year have been focused around the many changing and ever popular seasonal sports. Football and soccer hcld the limelight during the fall term while basketball. volley- ball. boxing. wrestling and swimming were attractions this winter. Track and baseball complete our cycle for the school year and come forward with a bang as the fellows let out all that extra vigor which has been piling up during the zero months. Aside from keeping the boys up to par on all the rules and regulations of the various games on the sports calendar. Wlr. Stavcn- hagen. boys' physical training director. does a line job in promoting an appreciation of the value of clean play and good sportsmanship in all of his classes. I'nder the rigorous but excellent training of Nliss Anna Mae Wack. we had a girls' foot- ball lcanl. well. sort of: yes. soccer ball is quite a game. Along with soccer. in the fall, we had plenty of muscle-straining exercises. Then old man winter chased the girls inside for four months of hibernation. During the winter season. basketball played an important part in the girls' gym classes. While repairs were being completed on the gym floor. archery was the center of attention. Spring is here at last. Now for a good soft ball game. But that isn't all we had for ex- citement. Other activities offered were volley- ball. tennis. track and golf. No school would be complete without its champion swimmers. Along with the regular swimming classes, as an added attraction. two swimming meets were held. Taking part in these meets was our own school and for com- petitors West High girls participated. Twelve of our girls took the life saving course thc past year under the supervision of Nliss Wack. Sometimes the basketball games in tht boys' gym classes develop into l'k'Q1lllAll free-for-alls. .20.
