It has been the primary objective of the East High English Department to provide every student with a substantial English background. Recognizing the need for students to master the basic writing and speaking skills, the English Department has first given the stu- dent a strong mechanical foundation. The intellect- ual stimulation of the student has been achieved through the presentation of new ideas and concepts. This year saw the introduction of a new phase in the English program. A Humanities class, made up of sen- ior honors students, sought to gain a more compre- hensive understanding of literary, musical, and artistic works through the framework of discussion and analy- sis. The culmination ot the English preparation ot the stu- dents was again witnessed in the production of anoth- er fine literary magazine.
