Spirit was high all during the long sea' son reaching classic proportions at the first EastfWest game. That game, though a losing effort, proved that a Knight never gives up. In the next meeting East earned a decisive victory. The Knights domif nated the All Olympic League Team with Bakken, Stautz and Olson making first squad and Fouch and Mahugh being nominated to Honor' able Mention. Finishing the Olympic League season with a 19f1 rec' ord thus tying for first East went into the West Central district in second league position on the flip of a coin. District play was rugged and revealing and saw the team gain third place in the district later to dominate the state finals. The drama overshadowing all others started on March 12 and reached its heighth tw-o days following when East, 12 points behind Anacortes in the last quarter, staged the great' est comeback in the history of the tournament. The record 34 points in those final 8 screaming minutes virtually assured East of its fifthfinf thefstate trophy. Lyle Bakken was named to the AllfState Basketball Team, Dan Stautz to the AllfState Second Team and Ron Olson ref ceived honorable mention. More honors came to East when Lyle Bakken was chosen most valuable player in the State Tournament and named to the AllfAmerican Basketball Team as the only representative from Washington State. It was a fitting climax to the season, an inf spiring show of teamfwork and school spirit long to be remembered.
