Behind the news — a sound Scroll staff The main objective of the 1971- 72 Scroll is to cover a wider scope of school activities. This includes getting more people and clubs in feature stories rather than news items. Some changes have been made. The Scroll staff was divided into fourth- and fifth-period classes with one co-editor in each. More pages were added to some issues. Scroll Staff members, after taking the be- ginning cour se in journalism, become members of the newspaper staff, where they practice what they learned in the beginning journalism course: writing news, features. editorials, headlines, copyreading, proofreading, layout. The staff feels that they have done their best to keep the news of the school up to date and to let the students know what ' s going on. Advisers: Mr Christian, editor- ial; Mr. Lethcoe, photography; Mrs. Hemer, bookkeeper. 29

While doing this, the students acquire the skill of using a camera and all of the equipment involved. They take pictures of couples at dances throughout the year, and individual pictures at commencement. This year something new was done. Group and individual pictures were taken of the swimming, wrestling, and basketball teams, and sold. Mr Leth- coe is the adviser. Quill Ad Club includes people in sales classes. They learn all aspects involved in selling a product, and do so by selling ads to companies for the yearbook. Within the Quill Club is the $75 Club These are people who have sold $75 or more of ads throughout the school year The advisers are Mr. Lethcoe and Mr. McCollaugh. Karen Avitt. Jim Vallejo. Tom Brun.
