206 Singers Reflect Image Of East High For the 206 students who participate in the Vocal Music Department, East High offers the opportunity to broaden musical knowledge through experience. Mr. Carnes, vocal music director, worked hard to achieve perfection in his four groups: A Cap- pella Choir, Boys ' Glee Club, Girls ' Glee Club, and the Scarlet Singers. Not only did they sound great, but they added the pride that accom- panies success. On several occasions the student body has had opportunities to hear the different groups per- form. The A Cappella Choir, the Girls ' Glee Club, and the Boys ' Glee Club performed in the Thanksgiving and Christmas assemblies. Other activities for the vocal groups include perform- ances throughout the city at banquets and other schools. ft 9 BOYS GLEE CLUB, Row 1: Jeff Rowot, Mark Bassett, Dave Warren, Jon Hogbin, Duke Saunders, Doug Fitch, Jon Bloomquist, Marc Badglcy. Twirling Success Stories Flagtwirlers Hard work and practice are essential to a good performance. Flagtwirler captains, Alice Grant and Marilyn Anderson, can vouch for this fact. Morning and sixth-hour practices for both the Flagtwirlers and Majorettes are supervised by Mr. Throckmorton, adviser. The Flagtwirlers ' rou- tines, accompanied by music, usually are two to three minutes in length. Computer Music and The Tijuana Brass suggest the type of lively music they used as a base for their routines. FLAGTWIRLERS, Row 1: Rikki Fleming, Marilyn Anderson, Alice Grant, Nancy Roe. Row 2: Janet Knowles, Laura Aiken, Debbie Hall. Row 3: Ramona Axser, Connie Stalter. Row 4: Mr. Throckmorton (adviser), Jean Severson, Kathy Thoren. MAJORETTES, Row 1: Lana Oppenheim, Linda Wilkison. Row 2: Charla Brown, Nancy Ryan. Row 3: Penni Simpson. Not pictured: Ricki Anderson. —21 — Majorettes The Majorettes perform at half-times, assemblies and pa- rades during the year. The routines are planned by Cap- tain Penni Simpson, and some- times with the aid of the other girls. The Clown and St. Valentine ' s Day routines were among some of the routines which were musically accom- panied. Any freshmen, sopho- more, or junior girl with a 3 grade average and an ability to twirl may try out.
