Let Our Steppers Entertain You! Let the Scarlet Steppers entertain you! Some of the assembly and half-time entertainment in- cluded a dance routine to Mame, toy soldiers, flashlight drill, and an Indian routine. Routines are planned and directed by the co-captains. The Steppers were requested to perform their flash- light drill at the Grand View basketball game February 20. Mrs. Dowd and Mrs. Spoerl, spon- sors, supervise morning and sixth-hour practices. Girls wishing to try out must have a 3 grade average and an ability to march. Looking a bit worried and tense over the outcome of a Stepper assembly are Co-captains Barb Rice and Stephanie Lemon. Bob Fever marches onward as Tom Seize her! was the command from the Queen of Hearts. The Steppers Lewis and Jim Simpkins find other things close in to capture the invader in Scarletland, Debbie Beal (center), to occupy their minds. Comedy Revealed In ' Learn Baby Learn ' Miss Minick (Julia Healy) and Dr. Joplin (Keith Peterson) discuss the problems and mischievous antics displayed by Put-on ' a character played by Bob Yacko. Mrs. Adams (Mardeen Cassell) tries to encourage Stubby (Tom Rowat) to pay more attention to his studies rather than to spend so much time playing basketball. William F. Davidson ' s production of Learn Baby Learn was the spring play presented April 9 and 10. With Mr. Waller as director, the plot revolved around a group of high school students who planned to overthrow a decision of the School Board (cancelling their game) by plotting mis- chievous events. The comedy featured both black and white actors, along with a modern setting of the 70 ' s. Tryouts were held for those who wanted to participate in the play. The cast was chosen on the basis of their acting ability. Helping make the play a success was Mr. Heckel, technical director, and Debbie Gather- cole, stage manager. Twirling Success Stories Flagtwirlers Hard work and practice are essential to a good performance. Flagtwirler captains, Alice Grant and Marilyn Anderson, can vouch for this fact. Morning and sixth-hour practices for both the Flagtwirlers and Majorettes are supervised by Mr. Throckmorton, adviser. The Flagtwirlers ' rou- tines, accompanied by music, usually are two to three minutes in length. Computer Music and The Tijuana Brass suggest the type of lively music they used as a base for their routines. FLAGTWIRLERS, Row 1: Rikki Fleming, Marilyn Anderson, Alice Grant, Nancy Roe. Row 2: Janet Knowles, Laura Aiken, Debbie Hall. Row 3: Ramona Axser, Connie Stalter. Row 4: Mr. Throckmorton (adviser), Jean Severson, Kathy Thoren. MAJORETTES, Row 1: Lana Oppenheim, Linda Wilkison. Row 2: Charla Brown, Nancy Ryan. Row 3: Penni Simpson. Not pictured: Ricki Anderson. —21 — Majorettes The Majorettes perform at half-times, assemblies and pa- rades during the year. The routines are planned by Cap- tain Penni Simpson, and some- times with the aid of the other girls. The Clown and St. Valentine ' s Day routines were among some of the routines which were musically accom- panied. Any freshmen, sopho- more, or junior girl with a 3 grade average and an ability to twirl may try out.
