L L 4- Q' lv GIRLS' SPORTS So that each and every girl may be satisfied and be a par- t1c1pant ln her favorite game each day s program 1S dlfferent This variable program automatically causes the g1rls to have a live interest in their gym periods For the young ladies who are avid table tennis fans the gym IS supplied with a table paddles and sufficient balls Then there IS box hockey whlch draws the attention of many volley ball popular at all times and every so game of badmlnton Though swimming is not the girls are advised to take lessons from our coach Scotty Russell The day that gym or around has added attractlon often a rousing compulsory all able swimming swimming rolls SQUAD LEADERS OFFICE ASSISTANTS In order that the girls may be about their games sooner Miss Spencer divides the one large gym class into several smaller groups known as squads Each squad then elects a leader who checks roll and sees that the games are kept moving by taking an actlve part rn them Besides the aid of squad leaders MISS Spencer also has the help of a group of girls known as Office Asslstants Each period ot the day has a different set of g1rls While Miss Spencer is conductlng games in the gym these g1rls make out the reports of absentees to home room teachers In general these girls make themselves invaluable to our instructor SQUAD LEADERS First Row R N b M ny Ol Th Second How H ell ir n Bonn 1 'I I C' Third Row L...- OFFICE ASSISTANTS First How Second Row Thlrd How Fourth 1-.- .:k.1'..- 'XSL . T SSNIOTS Memly we ve gone through school gone through school gone through school memly yes the senror class has really enyoyed the1r school years at East Hrgh and wxll be able to carry many memor1es both amuslng and some confusmg w1th them Now as we recall Many of our class members have been math ematrcal mrnded they mlnded 1t mostly durrng the1r learnmg but now they are thankful for havmg leamed to subtract some play from the1r m1nds and settle down to some really earnest thrnklng The style revrews glven by the Home Eco nomlcs department for the PTA had many g1rl representatrves from our class who d1s played the1r able sewmg ab1l1t1es Rah rah who are we for yea East Hrgh' The gals and fellows have leamed the meanrng of good sportsmanshrp by belongrng to our var1ous athletlc organlzatlons The honor of natlonal nfle champron was be stowed on Horace Webb th1s last semester Gregory Newell and Harold Lawler were both outstandlng hurdle champlons Srxteen boys from our class have worked earnestly eagerly and have shown much en thusrasm rn a1d1ng our football team to hold that l1ne and make that touchdown' Sw1mm1ng wrestllng and basketball are 1m portant sports Wh1Ch many of our boys have taken part 1n It s a racket and we do mean tennls rack et that several of our g1rls have swung out wrth for several semesters Gretta Brngwall Ioann K1rk Pat Metcalfe S15 MGth1S lean Ann Wlmmer and Betty Ann Ortlund are all enthuslasts 1n th1s sport One two three hrt' mlss' but yes golf Many grrls have had the1r hands on th1s club a so The G A A has really rendered the grrls some flne opportunrtres for learnlng the true meamng of the word sportsmanshrp Flash' And look who our leadlng lady rn several school plays has been None other than Mary Edythe Stuart who has ga1ned th1s grand opportunlty from the Dramatlc Depart ment of th1s school A promrnent dancer 1n our Extravaganza IS lack1e Hayes who has now become a profes sronal dancer We re proud of her and shes certarnly glad to have the pr1v1lege of d1splay 1ng her talents at hugh school We also have had a great number of musrc lovers who have been rn the band orchestra glee club a capella cho1r dance band etc They have learned that muslc makes school lrfe happrer and more gay and we all have learned to apprecrate 1ts effecnveness 1n our own 11ves Many of the class members took part m the On Our Way show w1th therr musrc talents and of course they have taken part 1n programs plays and assemblres rn the school What could our class have done wrthout our two tall strong and perfect fellows Bob Mc Afee and Chuck Nauman?
