New York University As department head, Mr. Coppinger is kept very busy. faeliaialaal8a1,ai1asis Opeas New Gateways fa Saaash The English program at East High is varied and comprehensive: students are given the opportu- nity to improve their reading and writing skills as Well as developing a good literary back- ground. The material taught differs from grade level to grade level, keeping in mind the abilities and limitations of the individual students. The English program has proven to be of great help to each and every student. Teachers in East High's English Department are continually striving to improve teaching meth- ods. This year, again, there Was a team teach- ing program. The emphasis on the individual has brought about a program oi independent study with more than 100 students participating. The program ranges from slow and regular learners to advanced and independent study.
