In September, 1954, a 5950.000 addition was completed which boosted our enrollment to a record of 1,724 students from grades seven to twelve. Dedication of the new wing, containing a new gymnasium, auditorium, shop and class rooms, was held on Sunday. May 1, 1955. Up until 1950 we were known as the Sunrisers, but upon a student poll, and recommendation of the coaches, the title Golden Bears was adopted. In 1951, Nuggets the nickname for our Golden Bears, was brought into being. Q CLASS OF 1955 The class of 1955 chose the Red Rose for class flower: blue and white for class colors, and the enchanting melody Star- dust, for their class song. J 'M . .2 Q3 jp, W GSW g!1ZQ5y,? E. Fell leaves this message with you: Graduation from high school pre-supposes a purpose in life. You have had splendid opportunities inthe last four years to establish goals and develop a philosophy of life which will con- tribute to successful living. We hope you have made many lasting friendships and that you have developed a sense of humor, habits of industry, faith in yourselves. and a faith in God. Our association together has been pleasant and our confidence in you is justified. E. E. Fell PQ 'rf' Mr. Burton Honey Mr. Burton Honey leaves this thought with you: For twelve years you, the class of '55, have surmounted many obstacles in your quest for knowledge and graduation from high school. Our democratic form of government, in giving you the opportunity to pursue these goals, holds that the greatest de- velopment of the individual represents the highest good for the individual and for the nation. Your continual effort for mature development will depend upon your use of the experiences gained through your years of schooling. May you find happiness, success, and satisfaction in your future life's work. B. H. Honey Lucy Pittinger HELPING HANDS Because of the work of Miss Lucy Pittinger, students can be given individual psychology tests to determine their ability. Her services are available to us at East and also eleven other buildings in the area. Besides being school psychologist, Miss Pittenger is also a part time English teacher. Office Staff Besides a new school addition, we also had a new addition to our office staff. Miss Carolyn Iones, graduate of Poland High School, succeeded Shirley Boom- hower. A well-organized office means a well- organized school. This task is competently accomplished by our ever-striving staff: Miss Carolyn Iones, Miss Eleanor Love, Myron Reese, and Wilbert Lambeth, vis- iting teacher. -.-,-.7!,,f,Q 1. Jr!! .J fQ Pickles Pickles, a three-act musical comedy, was presented by the senior choir in the auditorium on March 18, under the direction of Richard Campbell. The operetta takes place in old Vienna. Time . . . the present. It is Carnival time in Vienna and among the many tourists is wealthy pickle manufacturer, Ionas H. Pennington, and his beautiful daughter, Iune. Pennington's advertising agent, I. Iennison Iones, is also there, and to his pleasure finds the paintings of young Arthur Crefont perfect for his witty and sometimes outrageous advertise- ments. Pennington meets an old acquaintance, Lady Vivian Delaricy, who comes to Vienna every year at Carnival time in search of her daughter who was lost there when a baby. The police chief, with the help of his associates, Bumski and Bumski, plots to substitute Louisa for Lady Vivian Delancy's daughter, and then marry Lady Vivian for her fortune. The entire company is lodged at Hans Maier's picturesque Wurtzelpraeter Inn. A band of gyp- sies, led by Iigo and his supposed daughter Ilona, visit the Carnival. Events lead to the gypsy camp where a magic pool reveals Ilona as Lady Vivian's daughter. Before the curtain falls, Lady Vivian becomes Mrs. Pennington: Arthur Crefont wins Iune's hand: Ilona is restored to her real mother: Iones is a success, and Kinski's plot is exposed. Tension prevailed among the twenty-eight prom attendants, members of the senior class and many spectators as they waited anxiously for the re- vealing of the royal couple which was disclosed at 10:00 p.m. The King and Queen came forward through the arch of roses where Ronnie Hannis was crowned Senior Prom King by class president, Bill Demido- vich, who in turn crowned Delores Chismar, Queen. Then to the sentimental and dreamy music of the class song, Stardust, played by Nick Barile, the royal couple, followed by their attendants, danced the Coronation waltz. Thus ended the royal ceremony for the Class of 55. Top Row-Left to Right: Don Chetto, Iackie Morretti, Bill Demidovich, Pat Hertz, Tony DiGiacomo, Dot Orlando, Mike Giamhattista, Delores DelPlato.
