'Mal Eau' Zac!! Dedication With high esteem, we, the graduating class of 1951, wish to dedicate this Ianus to East High School on this Twenty-fifth Anniversary of its opening. For a quarter of a century, East High, endeavoring in every way to pro- mote the fine qualities in every student, contrived for the greatest benefit of all students in their education and training for society. We need only to look back into the past twenty-five years to behold its achievements. Through these doors of East High have passed many accom- plished men and women in the business, professional, and homemaking ca- reers, who have contributed much to the benefit of our community. Now, as we stand at the crossroads of our future, we cannot be too grate- ful to our teachers who have patiently and persistently encouraged us to make the most of our studies. It is with all sincerity that we do dedicate this year-book to the high ideals of our Alma Mater. Congratulations The following graduates of 1927 are celebrating their twenty-fifth anni- versary: I. A democracy must depend upon its schools for the development of capable leaders and an intelligent citizenry. Therefore, the future of America depends upon the efficiency of its schools. riff Page Eight li? OFFICE STAFF Miss Glenna Lou Myers, Miss Eleanor Love, Mr. William Lambeth, Mr. My- ron Reese. When doing a job we try to do our best: this holds true in obtaining a well-rounded education in school. The reward in high school for a good job well done is membership in the National Honor Society, an organization which symbolizes Leadership, Char- acter, Scholarship and Service. Membership in this organization is the highest achievement that can be awarded to any student in high school. Page Thirty lk Senior Play This was the stage where three old maids tried to capture a bandit cmd start a romance. A three-act comedy called Tish was presented by the Senior Dramatics class: the various escapades were led by Tish, Leticia Lim- bean, her two friends, Gertrude Marinelli and Elvira Federico. Its situa- tions, though dizzy, were always probable and in good taste. Complications galore developed--bee stingings, a boxing bout, mistaken identity, fire department interference, etc., but the kaleidoscopic finish un- tangled all, and the bees got smoked out, along with everyone else. Throughout the Year These are the seniors and many underclassmen who have gone through- out the year in the school that East built. On September 5, 1950... approximately two hundred and sixty-four seniors filled the halls, which will someday fill their memories with happy recollections. Our first pep rally brought down the roof and brought out our school spirit . . . those decorated hats saying Beat South , gave us, from the faculty to the tiniest eighth grader, a school spirit of won for all and all for won , and we won all the city series games and became city champs. Ioan O'Nesti, Rita Lopresta, Pat Hannis, Dorothy Minnie, Elda Gentile, Betty Racich. The Ianus staff took pictures of all our top assemblies, starting with the Echo Subscription assembly, where the sissy football skit left us all baffled. In November, Miss Alice Weber's dramatic class gave a Thanksgiving Assembly depicting freedom and the men who helped make it what it means to us today . . . and on Thanksgiving Day the East All-Stars made a great showing in the All-City game . . . Don Bucci became the first boy from East to be named All State. And so closed the football season. Then the snow, the Granddaddy of All Storms, and it took us a week to dig out and recuperate. In December the Freshman choir, under the direction of Mrs. Martha Bailey Walton, gave an operetta . . . our basketball team wasn't doing too well . . . the prom was postponed until Ianuary. The days before Christmas holi- days were jolly with unusual Yuletide spirit . . . the home rooms vied in the decorating contest and Christmas carols opened and closed our school day. -iff Page Thirty-three till' Left to Right top row: Iournaltsm students at Tri-county meeting, the Golden Bear, llddie Snierp Major- ettes dressed tor the Red Feather campaign, The Botty's Bargain cast from Iunioi Dranxattcsg enthusiasts at a Football tally: getting oft the bus at the annual Sheet and Tube open liouse. Long awaited commencement activities for Ianuary graduates were started off with the Prom on Ianuary 5, where at the Nu-Elms, Fred Ohle and Delores DeSiato were crowned King and Queen of the Senior class. Then came Baccalaureate services Wednesday morning: the address was given by Reverend Eugene Beach. Class-night was open, and as usual, a success. On Commencement night, our last Ianuary graduating class was thrown piteously out into the world . . . but the seniors weren't too downhearted to go party-hopping for - tomorrow was time enough to start making that niche in the world . . . tonight was graduation. A new semester brought approximately 170 new seniors into the A cate- gory . . . senioritis was the newest epidemic flying about . . . a new Ianus staff began to record the events of the new semester. The Echo Subscription assembly came up with something new . . . an old fashioned melo-drammer . . . Miss Alice Weber's dramatic class gave a three-act play . . . Do1lars and Nonsense. The Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y had a joint meeting at Pioneer Pavillion. Page Thirty-four Senior Prom These are the socialites who attended the Senior Prom at the Nu-Elms Ballroom on Ianuary 5, 1951. As a result, first semester's team was captained by Frank Medina and Sam Orlando who held 156 and 159 averages. This called for more replacements, so Angelo Larricia and Ioe Bevilaque came in as recruits. Second semester's team, with Ed Salata as captain, placed third after losing by only one pin to Memorial. It is the end of ou.r high school days and the beginning of new careers. We have now .come to the place where we must begin to build on that plan we have been preparing in our years here at East. In the course of our lives, many of us will travel far, and ,in the years to come we may tend to forget many events of our happy days in school together, but each time we hold this book before us, we shall again return to East and all our classmates. In our reminiscing, we shall trace over and over again each won- derful incident bound within these silver covers, memories so dear to our hearts. Now we are graduating, leaving East to seek further educa- 'tion and training: to get a start in our careers: to plant our roots in a place on this earth. True, we shall meet and make great decisions which may interrupt or change our plans, but we shall do so intelligently and courageously. As classes have done before us, we too, leave our footprints deeply imbedded in the Spirit of East High - the Spirit of the school that East built. -'Elf Page Seventy-five HK' THE HUGHES PROVISION CO. 118 East Federal Street 118 Youngstown's Finest Sanitary Food Market Fish Department Bakery Department Owned and Operated by Owned and Operated by CAMPBELL BROTHERS W.
