The French Club, a new organization at East high school, this year, is under the sponsorship of Mrs. Dorothy Donnelly. A great help to this club has been the new lan- guage labs in room 215. These have aided by providing ear phones, enabling the students to hear recordings of the ways of the French. One of the main purposes of the club is to learn the definite ways of the French customs in com- parison with those of our own. . . .Anil Spanish Club, To The Spanish Club, beginning its third year under the sponsorship of Miss Lenore Thornton, starrecl their activities with the initiation of new members. The purpose of the Spanish Club is to promote a bet- ter understanding of good will between Mexico and the United States. The club meets once a month after school in room 307 and is conducted in an interesting Spanishvlike manner. Mike Houtchens Velvo McCain Carol Dau hert Sandro 0 M i k e Houtchens First sem. Latin Club Revives Language The Junior Classical League Chapter of East high school boasts the largest membership of all the inter-do partmental clubs. With Miss Virginia McClure 215 SPODSOF, a meeting is held once a month in each Latin class during the school day. Thus, each class has separate officers. The big events of the year are the initiation of the new members in a solemn ceremony conducted by the second year students, and the regional convention at Raytown, Missouri, where every student attending is required to Wear the old style of Latin dress, the toga. Before the conven- tion each school nominates one student for candidacy of a particular office, Then a student manager is chosen for the candidate. At the convention, each school gives a short skit or play, followed by the student manager's speech for his school candidate. i - A - . l 33 Miss Virginia McClure Latin Club Sponsor Back row: Eugene Woolsey, Jerry Armstrong, Bill Radford, Bill Eads, Jim Morris, Jim Teegarden, Warren Britt, Larry Stinnett, Ronald Sanders, Richard Weiland, Jim Woodruff, Randy King.
