Throughout this past year, the Red Cross, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Mary Bates, established a disaster com- mittee and gave aid to those students who wished it. Then, during December, they sent a gift chest to Chile, and gave Christmas stockings to war veterans in the hospitals. Then, in October, a few of the members attended a Red Cross Training center held at Unity Farm in order to i promote the importance of thc Red Cross and to help the representatives acquire a better understanding of Red Cross methods. During the months of September and March, they held a membership drive in order to raise money for the gift chest fund. A ROUSING DISCUSSION is led by Dixie Stover, president, or the Red Cross meeting. With Miss Virginia McClure 215 SPODSOF, a meeting is held once a month in each Latin class during the school day. Thus, each class has separate officers. The big events of the year are the initiation of the new members in a solemn ceremony conducted by the second year students, and the regional convention at Raytown, Missouri, where every student attending is required to Wear the old style of Latin dress, the toga. Before the conven- tion each school nominates one student for candidacy of a particular office, Then a student manager is chosen for the candidate. At the convention, each school gives a short skit or play, followed by the student manager's speech for his school candidate. i - A - . l 33 Miss Virginia McClure Latin Club Sponsor Back row: Eugene Woolsey, Jerry Armstrong, Bill Radford, Bill Eads, Jim Morris, Jim Teegarden, Warren Britt, Larry Stinnett, Ronald Sanders, Richard Weiland, Jim Woodruff, Randy King.
