Among the second team all-stars was Ted Pickett, ace Grizzly field general. Driving power was supplied the team by Dale Miles. Lowell Morse missed the first string by but a single vote. Jack the giant killer” Vaughn was an excellent end, always full of fight. Dan Mathis, chosen for his excellent running, passing, tackling, and blocking, stepped into the backfield. One of the leagues most speedy and rugged chargers was Junior Paris. He was the downfall of many opposing backs, and a bulwark of the East defense. 16

The Cardinals were able to score in the late minutes of the game. East 20—Westport 0 Playing the rangy Westport team, the Grizzlies capitalized on Tiger fumbles. Swift chargers of the Bruin line took the bobbles made by the Bengals, and the Bear backfield was quick to convert them into touchdowns. East 19—Paseo 0 The Pirates held the mighty East gridsters scoreless for the first half of the game. Tom Cook was hard to hold, and his passing and running might have meant touchdowns had the Green and Black gridmen been less alert. East 31—Southeast 0 Hopes for the title grew as the East machine rolled over the Southeast Knights. The Bears set a scoring record for the period up to this time. East had begun to prove her quality. A Southeast player slows Miles as others rush in. 18
