To The Class of 1963 l The seniors who will be graduated in June. will have fulfilled some rather rigid requirements for their high school diplo- PRINCIPAL D' R' MCMASTERS mas. In the future, many of you will be- come interested in acquiring a greater understanding of inanimate objects while others will desire to increase their understanding of people. Specialists in these two fields are termed scientists and humanists. In our modern society or culture, no one should delve into the mysteries of one area to the extent of paying only passing attention to the other. Rather, one should strive for a proportion in each, a breadth of knowledge which will enable him to appreciate the interrelationships of the numerous parts which constitute the whole of life and living. ' We earn a living by making use of acquired special skills. Life, however, can be much more than earning a livlihood, important as this is to all, A life devoted solely to amassing a fortune or only to securing public acclaim invariably is accompanied by loneliness and frustration. On the other hand, those who combine or blend an appreciation of nature, an understanding and respect for the wisdom we have inherited from those who have gone before us, and a sincere desire to render a service to others with their daily labor will find constant pleasure and personal satisfaction, regardless of the vocation they have selected. We hope your years at East are but a beginning to the acquisition of that degree of breadth and depth of knowledge which will make each of your individual lives of benefit to others, while bringing great satisfaction to you. D. R. McMasters 10
