This has decreased pupil failures and brought about higher standards of scholarship and a more studious and purpose ful attitude on the pan oi all pupils The activity period has proved to he the most profitable of all the new innovations, and i s used as follows Monday is Chorus day, Tuesday is Thrift Education day, Wednesday is Glee Club day, Thursdaj is School flubs day and Friday is General assembly day. Space will not permit our going into detail tis to the us-c made of the activity period on each of these days but we Jo feel constrained to say something about the use made of si on Thursday or the School Clubs day. Shortly after the beginning of school a committee of teachers got out two questionnaires, one for the teachers and one for the pupils. The teachers ' -questionnaire among other things asked them la hat Club they would like to sponsor and also requested them to state the purpose which they hoped to accomplish through the Club. The following clubs to ere enum- erated by the teachers and the purpose of each set forth I fewne I -CLiorpmics Ouh ( iwrtfne rci-ii I t lIuS Inter NVw f luh Frcivth Oub t . ' hew bln Cllub Dramatic Club R;id:i 5 f’Luh Scninr Club Ctrl Sennit Short fkeuy tlub Intermit icwuil Club Camera flub Krtij ' A Y if l ley ( ' lull Wropl:niL Sui I f These w-iih their purposes set forth were embodied in a second questionnaire which was submitted to the pupils. 3 he pupils were then asked to rank the proposed clubs as to iheir first, second and third choices It was understood that half of the dubs we re to meet on alternate I ' huisJays and no pupil wap permitted to belong to mure than i to o clubs 1 he s c were then collected and each pupil was. given his or her assign- ments and scheduled fen the club Of clubs of his or her preference, so far us possible, and this assignment of the pupil was indicated on his or her program card in the nfltcc thus scheduling the pupil for club work just as he or she was carded for all other class work. In order to insure greater success in club work the school time cm I hursday forenoon was divided into four equal periods of }4 minutes each. All in all the various clubs have done remarkably good work, The club scheme scheduled during the regular school time has many advantages, foremost of which arc :t) all pupils are given u real opportunity LO belong to one or two clubs, and (i) all club meetings arc held in the regular school rime thus precluding and doing away with a LI night meetings of Same. The school clubs have been very successful and some of them have put on must ex- cellent programs from time to time. By way of illustration we wish to mention speci- fically the good work of the Dramatic Club. This dub under the able direction of Miss Ley and Miss Shea put on among other things “The Charm School, a three-act comedy, unJ. so success hil was the production that iL was necessary to repeat it a second time.. This club also did much work by way of community service such as entertaining the orphans ut Si Joseph ' s orphanage, and putting on programs for the Womens dubs, etc. Fvcry club has had prominent speakers from the community and other outside Pure Sm-tnitm
