Provide Music For All The band earned money for a band trip taken in the spring. Money was raised through a variety of ways such as the annual Fall Festivall button sale, a pot-luck supper, and concerts. Besides providing music for such special school events, as the coronation of Miss East on Red and Gray Day, the band is a maior source ot pep at pep tests. April l2th was the date ot the annual spring concert presented by the band. Solos, overtures, novelties, and marches comprised an enioyable even- ing of music. The band concluded an eventful year under the capable direction of Mr. Vickers with concerts at P.T.A. meetings, the Masonic Temple, assemblies and a varied number of special events. THE JUNIOR HIGH BANDS Those small students with big, heavy instruments and scared looks on their faces as they head for the band room are members of the Seventh Grade Band. Membership in an actual band is a rather frightening experience for the seventh graders as well as- an exciting one. However, most of these aspiring musicians stay with Mr. Manz for another year to become members of the Eighth Grade Band. ln the Eighth Grade Band, as the musicians become more experienced and less stage-struck, the music becomes more dif- ficult. The instruments don't feel so clumsy and heavy, and they certainly seem easier to play. Finally we come to the Ninth Grade Band, the top step on the ladder of the iunior high bands, With this band comes the responsibility of playing for iunlor high sports events and iunior high assemblies. Now part of the music is hand me downs from the senior high band and consequently much harder. Part of the thrill of being in a band is the uniform. Each iunior high band has its own distinct uniform. The Seventh Grade Band members scurry about in a white shirt and white pants. The eighth graders wear a red sweater over this outfit. The Ninth Grade Band members are familiar in their gray trousers, a white shirt, a red sweater, and a red tie. The iunior high bands add pep and vigor to iunior high life, and prepare them for the awaited membership in the Senior Band. Their Course EIGHTH GRADE BAND ROW T: L. Alrick, J. Lundberg, J. Olson, L.
