No doubt you have seen several small persons dashing to and fro about the halls, dressed all in white. They form part of East .lunior's seventh grade band. lt is this band which gives inspired young musicians their start in musical life. Here, the technique of learning to play band instruments is taught by Mr. O. Tania, who also directs the seventh graders during the hours of practice to- gether and at the concerts presented during the year. Perhaps you have also seen red sweaters with white pants roaming in halls. These represent the eighth grade band, under Mr. Robert Vickers's direction. Out of the seventy-eight members of this band, three have been chosen as of- ficers, they are Ken Brostrom, president, Patsy Kee, vice-president, and Carol Gould, secretary-treasurer. This band presents concerts and also performed at the city junior high student council convention which was held at East this year. By the time these once-young musicians reach the ninth grade, they are quite accomplished people. Performing at assemblies and basketball games are only two of their many duties. They also present concerts and look quite dis- tinguished as they appear in their red and grey outfits. The ninth grade band officers are, president, Lloyd Miller, vice-president, Charlie Dock, and sec- retary-treasurer, Buzzy Krovitz. 26 1
