STUDENT COUNCIL Students of East practise Democracy in every day living through their elected representatives, the Student Council, composed of representatives elected by the twenty-four homerooms. The Council meets every Tuesday during activity period to assist in the management of the school. Under the able leadership of its advisor, Mr. Peter P. Zimmerman, and its officers, Jim Waldo, president, Ralph Cunningham, vice-president, Sally Parish, secretary, the Council directed a number of successful activities during the year. At the annual Recognition Day program, the Council awarded certificates of office to 240 students who were serving the school in many different ways. The Christmas toy drive was very successful this year-over l,20O toys were collected to be repaired and distributed to less fortunate children. ln February the Council organized two Winter Frolics on the school rink, one for the seventh and eighth grades and one for the ninth and tenth grades. Participating in the city-wide Student Council convention in March, representatives from our Council presented a discussion on the Honor Point System. A magazine sub- scription drive to raise money for the school was directed by the Council iust before Easter. At the close of school, gold, silver, and bronze E pins were presented to those students who had earned them in extra-curricular activities of the school.
