As Hunt knocks out the opposition, Kelley goes over for the scorel Next, East met the Rule High Golden Bears, again to conduct an inspiring campaign for the first half, coming through with two touchdowns by Ellenburg, who added the extra point to lead 13-7 at the half. Rule's seasoned players came back strong to overpower a tired East team 25-13. Still undaunted by defeat, East, led by the sensation- al tackling of Bill Gillett, held powerful Oak Ridge to a hard-earned victory of 12-O. A fine South High team stood no less a threat, but Captain Bob Hunt and Pat Kelley managed three touch- downs to win 18-13. The Mountaineers celebrated HOMECGMING vic- toriously by trouncing the Young High Yellow Jackets 20-14, thanks to the scoring of Pat Kelley, Ralph Breeden, and Gerald Smith. East kept its winning streak intact by downing West High's valiant Rebels 7-O. Bill Smallman scored the touch- down and Mickey Ellenburg converted. Kingsport's mighty Indians fell, in an upset defeat of 13-7, Bill Smallman and Bob Small scoring for East and Ellenburg earning the extra point. Meeting Carter High for the first time, East achieved its fifth straight victory 25-13. The touchdowns were made by Bill Smallman, Johnny Deck, and Ralph Breeden. Then down came Elizabethton to halt our winning record 13-7. A bright moment flashed when Breeden scored on a long pass from Mickey Ellenburg. ln the final game East overwhelmed Fulton's Falcons 14-7. Preceded by a score from Breeden, Ellenburg in the final seconds blasted Fulton's hopes with the season's finest score. Few teams have come farther and more valiantly to the Knoxville City Championship. All East High took just pride in its team.
