Head Coach jim Hoops stated, One sign of true quality is that a team can come back from de- feat and be a winner. It is an attribute to the fine character of the players that they were able to go undefeated the last 4 games. Returning next year will be about half of the team players, in hopes for more support, school spirit and victories. 1 Q - FRONT ROW L, TO R. T. Hellen, M. Hughes, V. Frazier, J. Brown, R. Spectator attendance was low this year and casualties high, but this didn't affect the morale of the team. As with all sports, practices were straining and very time consuming. In addition to the hard work, this year's Gymnas- tics Team had difficulty in finding equipment. Bravely facing scrutinizing judges, gymnasts know they have only themselves to rely upon. While we were apathetically Wrapped up in person- al concerns, these girls were working to effectively represent our school. They have hopes that in future years they will have more encouragement from the student body. 21 IES IESB T L r A to dd C3 .ad y 22 l Bobby socks, mid-calf skirt lengths, and ducktails were among the many fashionable 50's styles observed among the students and faculty on Spirit Day. Besides being a relax- ing break from the ordinary actions of the day, Spirit Day proved to be a novel Way to contrast the changes in dress which have occurred. Most of us learned more about the cus- toms and actions of those who preceded us at East twenty years ago. It is probable that if the girls now Wore their skirts at the un- flattering length of the 50's, the boys' academic attention span would increase noticeably. On the eerie eve of October 28th, strange shrieks were heard from the main hall of East High School. Further investigation proved that these strange sounds, along with fits of uncontrollable laughter, were a result of the famed Fall Sports Dance. This year, for the first time in seventeen years, Spotlight and Angelus sponsored a costume ball, and contrary to the recent failures, this year's dance was an obvious success. The costumes were original, the dancing Wild, and the festivity of the Halloween theme guaranteed an enjoyable time for all. :x 1 YQ a 3,5 li I The Little Tramp nd now it's time for somethin warm to drink. , if ge 3 i m e 5 Q 'IQ r-'U xg? h 1? i, i. , 'mgfxfwi' '33-1 is - L' P1 gm , ,, E 5. 3? ? B th ' ELS C The Head Boy and Head Girl, in conjunction with Student Council, have Worked hard to make this year a good one. One objective both' Paul Weiss and Tina Walls have strived for is involvement of students. This involvement included activ- ities such as the winter carnival, the St. Valentine's Dance, the music in the halls, the information booth, and the indepth studies pro- gram. Student involvement is a difficult objective to achieve in a school as large as East, but through these various activities, Paul and Tina hope they have included the majority of the student body and made it a successful year. N For many years East High School has been acclaime as one of the most liberal educational institutions in the city. A large part of this praise has rightfully belonged to the Delegate Assembly. Delegate Assembly consisted of one student from each class during the administrative period Whose responsibilit was to become an active part of whatever changes were needed to better East. They then reported back and forth from Delegate Assembly meetings to their respective classes. This year they have been responsible for a census involving a nine week grading system for English and social studies mini-courses, a relatively new concept at East. At the first semester's end, questions were raised as to whether or not to con- tinue Delegate Assembly, as it often seemed ineffective. Votes, however, indicated that it should be retained. As to how long Delegate Assembly can survive, only time will tell. ' d Y rn EI-- I .LS I .Ll Q I seruor representatlves Patm Faye Asano, Kirk Stephens, A 'E-.
