English The English department offers the student proficiency in two of the most important skills that he will achieve in his lifetime- those of expressing himself clearly, both orally and on paper, and of understanding and appreciating the words of others. Cre- ative writing, composition, and literature courses are offered to develop these abilities. 16 Como esta, Senor? Zer gud, fraulien. The language department introduces students to thinking in a foreign language. The interested student may choose from classical Latin and modern French, German, Russian, and Spanish. The lan- guage lab has been available two years. Tapes are on hand to help students gain facility in foreign speech. Study ofa foreign language increases under- standing of that culture and one's native language.

Special Education Under the direction of Mrs. Pixley, students in the special education classes prepare for future vocations by gaining practical experience in writing receipts, making change, and selling merchandise. They learn the labor laws, social security requirements, and how to apply for jobs. Flash cord drills increase the student's proficiency in arith- metic fundamentals.
