As we, the graduating class of 1952, look back at our past, we recall many fond memories. In the fall of 1949, as sophomores, we elected Rocky Groves, president, to work along with the other class officers and our two sponsors, Miss Lucille Ilgaudas and Gregg Browning. The first social activity at East was our sophomore party. Advancing to juniors, our class chose Donald Ackerman to lead us through two wonderful social events, the Iunior prom, where Sidge Arnold was chosen to reign as queen, and Red and White day. And now, the present, is our senior year. After electing Lynn Hoover, president of the class, we gave a Senior Hoe Down dance, Senior Class play, and the Senior prom. Corrie Houston brought recognition to our class in being elected Homecoming queen as did Peter Breit, Woodbury winner, and Elizabeth Merey, Wolcott winner. ln athletics, the class won many titles: the football team won the city championship and placed second in the state, the tennis and golf teams won city championships: and our basketball team won city and state. Now that our high school days have drawn to a close, we, the senior class members, are looking ahead with confidence in expectation of a future which will be as full and enriched as the past has been. It's in our hands, our past, our present, and our future. Gregg Browning, Class Sponsor. This is the-repre- sentative body of the students, having an elected representative from each first hour class. The close Contact with the students thus maintained by the delegate assembly is a great help in extending the opportunity for student participation. The assernbly's most important job this year is the ratification of East's new constitution. Another special group of students, which has been oi great assistance to the principal since 1947, is the principal's advisory coun- cil. Representatives from the sophomore, junior, and senior classes, together with pub- lication edit-ors, council officers and assembly officers, give the principal suggestions and student views on the high school problems of the day. Lively Spotlight Co-ordincttes Student Efforts The East High Spotlight this year reached a new height in able and successful student reporting. This has been reflected in the growing support and sales of the Spotlight. In April, a much deserved tribute was paid the Spotlight and the capable staff which publishes it. The University oi Denver named the Spotlight the outstanding high school pub- lication of Colorado. This announcement came on the same day eqqe and section editors caught in a serious moment. that the Pre-Law club sponsored its annual assembly in behalf of the Spotlight, an as- sembly which culminated in the annual IUOW sale ot the newspaper. Increased pop- ularity ot the publication is attributed to the many novel editions resulting from the orig- inality and initiative ot the staff. This year's editorials have dealt with the lunch problem, school spirit, and cooperation with the faculty and student council. If you were to look in on the classes at East, you would see the teachers, like fine artists, molding, with skilled fingers, the personalities of twenty-four hundred students. They try to make each student a work of art, shaping his character as a sculptor, with dextrous hands, shapes his clay. The long, tapering hands of the musician fashion the musical groups of East into complete harmony. The short, sturdy, more masculine fingers salute the Reserve Officers Training Corps as one of East's most active groups. The athletic students are carved and patterned into shape by hands that seldom fumble. The steady hands of the instructors carefully guide the craft department in designing various projects. Competent hands hold the test tubes of the student scientists, while the future engineers and artists are carefully molded by fine, efficient hands. All these pairs of hands combine, as fingers, to form one flawlessly functioning pair of hands which molds East's fine curriculum. Miss Putnam and her staff of angelic helpers handle the financial business of East. They sell fee cards, help Angelus campaigns, and handle the various drives which come to East. The out-ofstown trips to football games are all handled in this department. Few Angels realize what an important and ef- ficient job is carried on in the treasurer's office. Along with these groups are the clinic as- sistants, who are an efficient group of Seraph Sisters. There is a Seraph Sister in the clinic every hour of the day who assists ill stu- dents, while other assistants run errands for Mrs. Henrietta Schwarzler, the school nurse. A 32-5 'fl' Service Groups Help Angels lf you were to watch Mrs. lva Chadwick and her assistants preparing for noon, you would be amazed at the skill and smoothness with which this staff produces lunch for the Angels. They serve a hot meal every noon for those who want ity also, they make sand- wiches, pies and cakes for the Seraphs who just want a noon snack. After you have seen the smoothly function- ing lunch room, you might look in on Law- rence Marshall in the O. A. S. Office. Mr. Marshall and his ever-ready staff help stu- dents at East find suitable situations for work. lf an employer calls and wants to employ a student, Mr. Marshall dispatches one of his assistants, who does not happen to be filing at the moment, to fetch an applicant suitable for this job, Many Angels are very grateful to the G. A. S, staff for the jobs they hold. Now that you have seen Mr. Marshalls staff in action, another service group in which you might be interested is the Boys' Social Room attendants. You would see them sent to all parts of the building doing errands for Kenneth Gorsline, straightening out maga- zines, sorting checkers, or helping Mr. Gors- line arrange schedules. All of these service groups are indispensable at East high school. ' Counter Clockwise, Cafeteria Workers, Front row, left to right: Eva West Lelia Leabo. The bi- monthly meetings of the presidents of thirtyetwo clubs help to forge the chain more strongly. The council introduces the students to the organizations of the school by means of club open houses. Then, from the time when each group establishes its membership, the council is busy forming a link of interest between the clubs and their members and the officers and sponsors. With the sponsorship of Miss Alice Walter, the emphasis of the club program has been placed on service to the school. The lnter- Club council is striving to impart an appreci- ation of club participation to East's students. The Angels opened up a three-pronged assault of Lutz, Shavlik, and Wilke in the second half, and the Trojans were soon overcome. The final score was 53 to 39. Angel fans received a scare when the fourth foul was called on Shavlik early in the second period, but the team showed their hidden power during the remainder of the game, winning 55 to 48. loe Leyden led the attack, with Dick Lutz turning in his best game of the season. The final game of the tourney was anti- climatic as East trounced Manual 48 to 35.
