A science course will be etit him im nse- Iy either way, for he will develop a new sense of reasoning and exactness. T e ar has brought about an increase in the number ot science students, who need science tor th armed forces. I Biology, physics, a n d chemistry are the mainstays of the science department, chemistry being divided into practical or technical in the second semester. Radio and aviation ground school are also popular science courses, which are relatively new and very important for boys in- tending to enter the armed forces. Many girls are also in these courses. Now required for graduation, classes in American history are designed not only to give the pupil a knowledge of the early United States, but also to acquaint him with the problems of our country today. In addition to the re- quired American history many elective courses are offered in this department. Modern Eu- ropean history, ancient history and history of the West give students an opportunity to broaden this knowledge of the field while sociology, economic and social problems and psy- chology give variety and inter- est to the offerings of the So- cial Studies department. Mathematics Mathematics, the foundation for all science and technical work, has become increasingly pop- ular at East this year. Through the study of mathematics, one learns to think clearly and ac- curately and to solve any problem, no matter of what nature, logically. lt is also a prerequisite for all technical branches of the armed services. East has a very comprehensive math depart- ment, and it is increasing its scope constantly. i Practical math, two years of algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, trigonometry, mathe- matical analysis, and basic mathematics comprise the courses offered to give the student a firm foundation in the third of the Three R's. , A LITTLE MATTER OF ANGLES. THE UNKNOWING SOLVES THE UNKNOWN.
