He has completed a chapter covering fifty years of the history of East High, and he pauses to reread his manuscript. From the point of his pen drips gold, as he gazes at the drops he realizes that these are symbolic of a golden annif versary, the golden anniversary of East High. He turns the wordfladen pages, now to the first class, now to the class of 1927, and mentally he compares the vast changes that have been wrought. A curriculum that had within its scope but two electives, to a curriculum that aptly prepares the student for a career. A building that housed elementary and high school classes to a building that has been specialized for senior high school only. A graduating class of seven to a class of five hundred and fortyftwo. The scribe sees these two houses of learning that have been separated by the years, linkd by the old bell that stands in the south court as a monument to the Arapahoe school, and by the tower of the present building that stands as a monument to modern education. He sees the chain of traditions lengthened with the years through the old East Denver High, and he pauses to muse upon these traditions. Friendship, a tradition that has brought a keener understanding between the classes and the faculty. Ambition for higher standards, foraging into new and unexf plored fields in oratory, scholarship, journalism and social contact. Red and white, traditional colors that wind in and out of every year and every activity. The scribe again is fascinated by the gold, which flowed into his quill as he wrote the last paragraph, that of the class of '27, the senior hard times party, the Prom, Com' mencemcnt, and the class gift to the Alumni Fund, all written in gold, for they are the completion, not only of another year, but of fifty years.
